UNSW Photoclub shoots VWGolf.net.au

My GT-R, driving it gets me high, every time – Photo by Rev 555.

Last night VWGolf.net.au members were invited to a photoshoot at the UNSW by the UNSW Photoclub. There was a healthy turnout of both cars and photographers. My GTI was filthy so I planned to just jump in SUGA and take pics, but last minute I decided to take the beast out (and I forgot my camera!). Was a fun meet and a few of us hit up Korean BBQ for dinner afterwards too.

The photos haven’t made their way online just yet but be sure to keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Lucas

Yesterday Christina, Jess and I went to pay the latest addition to the Lock family a visit. Little Lucas is just over a week old and would you believe I got a go at holding him?! I’ve never held a baby before so it was a pretty special moment for me (I had a bad case of baby phobia for many years haha). I’ll be a real man one day!

Moonlight

I’m running a black background on the tank again now. Click here for a bigger pic.

And here’s a moonlight shot, just before lights out at 10pm.

The impact of trail maintenance on a community?

2 prominent members + a clash of nerves = the most exciting debate on Bikes Move Us since forever.

When I read the thread I Initially laughed at how serious and into it everyone was (hey I’m into fish tanks at the moment so I’m definitely on the outside looking in, detached and less emotional), but after reading a few posts I couldn’t help but get involved.

Here’s one guy who makes it a priority in his life to maintain the trails that mountain bike riders ride on yet he’s aggressively pointing the finger at everyone who fails to do as he does. I’m sure there are riders like myself who simply enjoy riding the trails, full stop. I absolutely respect that there are people out there who are maintaining the trails, but as I posted on another cycling forum (yes this BMU thread has spread): In the end of the day I think people like Grant (the guy who has his panties in a bunch) need to exist and I’m always up for respecting extremists (each to their own). I’m glad someone’s out there chaining themselves up to whaling boats for Greenpeace but if that person was trying to bring me down for not joining them out there they can go screw themselves.

EcoTech Marine Vortech MP40w ES

I removed these 6 wave making pumps.

And replaced it with 2 of these bad boys.

Wireless (yes, geeking out to the max) controllers which communicate to each other and control the water flow from 2 pumps on opposing ends of the tank.

I’ve been eyeing these pumps for a few months now. They’re designed in the US and though noisy (the motors are on the outside so there’s no ugly wiring on the inside of your tank) they’re also regarded by many as the best pump out there. At $700/pump they’re also the most expensive pumps you can buy!

I’m pretty sure that if the shop I bought them from looked at their stats the person giving them the most hits to the MP40w ES product page has been me! I came so close to hitting the ‘buy now’ button so many times. In the end I took up the shop’s offer of beating anyone else’s price by 10%. I found the pumps for $600 elsewhere and all up that saved me a decent $310.

If you’re interested, there’s more info on this pump here and an interesting wave video here.

$P$

I dropped into Kims yesterday and dropped some serious dosh on some SPS.

Baller move = true.
Contradict myself = true.

I really did love the idea of growing out some aqua-cultured frags but as usual impatience got the better of me! I’m really hoping, and doing my best to make sure these corals not only survive, but thrive.

The stars must be aligned!

I was at the Post Office today and I bought a pack of stamps. Fish stamps?! The stars must be aligned!

Yeah right!

The Sydney to Gong ride is coming up soon. It’s going to be a VERY tough 90km ride for me this year as I’ve really not been on the bicycle at all. I’m pretty sure I’ve got the mental determination to make it though. I’ll just try to roll as much of it without pedalling as I can!

Please consider donating (all proceeds go to MS Australia). I’d really appreciate it!

Lunch at Jamie’s

My sister put on a lunch yesterday for all of her (and Richie’s) pommy mates, and as usual she smashed it! Food was so good, she’s an awesome entertainer (wish I had some of that!). Some pics:

Oz and Dexter. My mate Oz is a real man now!

Dexter – Omnomnom!

Richie’s new Foxy beers!

Entree’s.

Home made icecream for dessert.
