Suminoya

Tucked away in a one way dead end lane.

$50, all you can eat and sashimi on the menu? Srs?!

Our table had 3 free standing hot charcoal BBQ’s.

Venue was crazy smokey and the heat emanating from the hot charcoal was pretty intense.

Last night Willy organised an impromptu dinner for Charles, who’s back in town for a couple of weeks. Most places were booked out apparently but he managed to get us a table for 9 at Suminoya in the city.

I’ve never been to Suminoya before, it’s owned by the same people that run Rengaya and Koya in Sydney’s North but instead of using gas they use hot coals. The restaurant was tucked away in a small lane close to Martin Place and inside it was crazy smokey (my new jacket now stinks like BBQ!).

Dirty stories and hardcore payouts. As usual when hanging out with the old Auto Salon Magazine guys there was much laughter! Food was awesome too, and great value at $50 for all you can eat.

More bike night photos by Matthew Mead

Initially I was the only one working on a bike, at the end of the night it seemed like everyone was working on their bikes!

Ryan, Jarod with nerf gun and Alex.

Alex and I stripping cranks off my Reign. Sometimes a helping hand goes a long way.

Jing taking a shot.

Matt took some rad shots last night, more on his blog.

BMU bike night

In attendance: Matt, Jing, Kevin, Trieu, Norman, Clifton, Timmy, Ryan, Felix, Alex, and Jarod.

My Reign, stripped.

Pizza time!

We stayed true to the tradition of riding to the beach, this time around we hit the skate park. That’s Norman who’s stacked it on the right haha.

Kevin on his 6.5kg roadie (ridiculously light!). I doubt this skate park has ever seen so many road bikes!

Matt on his 29’er.

Since Christina’s no longer living with me (she’s back at her parent’s place) I thought it was time to re-introduce BMU bike nights. I had 11 guys over, tinkering with bikes, eating pizza, drinking beers, we made a mess, good times!

JDMST/Circuit Club Senna Screening

A sold out event, our own private cinema and we raised $5,000 for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation!

Narada and John raffled of a bunch of prizes before the screening.

Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation show bag with chocolates inside on every seat.

The vibe in the Hoyts foyer last night pre-show was awesome. 200 car guys, all here to watch Senna, all donating their money to the Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation. Good times.

Once everyone was seated and prizes were raffled off, Narada showed a short Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation film which I’m sure touched everyone in the audience. If people weren’t sure that their $25 went to a good cause before, they sure knew it now.

Senna itself went down hard. It’s an emotional film and I’m sure it educated a lot of people about who the man was, how he thought and what racing was like in the 80’s.

More photos form the night here.

Ear infection

Hope you’re not eating your breakfast whilst reading this.

Every few years my ears get blocked form ear wax. Ewwwww, yeah. My old doctor told me not to use earbuds to clean out my ears, seems like when I do use them they just push the wax further in and that causes the blockage. I’ve had my ears flushed out twice before, basically I use ear drops for a week, then the doctor flushes out the build up wax with a huge syringe filled with hot water.

A few days ago I found myself picking at my right ear. I think I was half asleep? I tried to clean my ear out with an earbud and yep, fucked my ear up good. I had to go in to see the doctor to get a shot in any case (Jamie’s baby is popping out tomorrow so the whole family has gotten whooping cough shots in preparation) so I had him have a lok at it, and too right, it turns out I have an ear infection.

Same drill, ear drops for a week then he’ll flush shit out. As soon as I got home I used the ear drops on the right ear, then the left. As a result I’ve lost all hearing in my left ear and I can only just barely hear with my right. I’ve been in a strange place the past 2 days, it’s amazing how out of whack I feel considering there’s nothing at all wrong with me otherwise. I missed the INfront Apple Talk at the Apple store last night because I just didn’t feel confident to go out into the world with poor hearing, and tonight I’ve got the Senna screening which I absolutely have to attend… it’s going to be interesting!

EDIT: Hot water + a syringe did the trick (you don’t want to know about the amounts of wax that came out, crazy gross!) and now I can hear again! Like never before. YAY! It’s like turning the treble up. Even the clicking of the keys on my keyboard, mouse, and when I walk the rustling of my clothes. BIONIC!

ANJA

ANJA Eurphorics in Black Gloss.

A few days ago I got a call from Caryn, her little brother Scott (he’ll always be Scotty to me!) has launched a new sunglasses company which totally took me by surprise!

I checked out the site, real nice. I thought Caryn had designed it but it turns out Scotty did it all by himself. Being a bit of a sunglasses collector I couldn’t help myself so I bought a pair.

They came in the mail today and I love them! They’re rad, packaged nicely, came with some stickers and an ANJA branded pouch and cleaning cloth too.

Check out: http://anjaeyes.com and also be sure to check out the ANJA Blog, warning though, it’s not safe for work!
