Suga went for the salad!

Of-course I went for something a lot more naughty haha.

Group shot.

VWGolf.net.au Schnitzel Night (1st Wednesday of every month) last Wednesday night @ the Bavarian at EQ. We had almost 20 people in for dinner and I took the opportunity to finally shoot David’s R32 Golf (he’s been wanting me to shoot his car for ages!). As much as I love taking photos for this blog it’s been strange having someone ask me to shoot their car. I definitely fell short. In the dark car park the GF1 just produced noisy shots. The more I edited them in Photoshop the noisier things got. Thankfully we’ve got John, an amazingly talented Photoshopper on the forums. He worked his magic on 2 of the above images (of Christina’s R32 and my GTI).

Many more pictures here.

Giant Reign 1

High res.

The day after bike night I cleaned up every single component and put the Reign back together (had to otherwise it would have just stayed in bits!). The day after that I tuned it all up and today I took a shot of it. Out of all the bikes I own, this has to be my fave bike. I’ve learnt so much through it and I’ve got it set up just how I like it.

Whilst cleaning it and putting it back together I realised that he’s (it’s a he, see, not a she) pretty beat up. There’s scratches on every single component and the frame’s a mess (powdercoat finish has cracked and it’s really flaking off under the bottom bracket). The rear wheel isn’t rolling like it used too, maybe the rear hub needs a service.

Whilst I’m not ready to sell up I do know what I’d be looking out for in a new bike to replace the Reign:

– Unlike the reign it’ll have to have full jacket cables all the way through from shifters to derailleurs so that cables will last longer and operate smoother.

– I don’t want to see cables touching the frame at all, anywhere. Over the years the cable rubbing from turning the handlebars as well as suspension movement has really damaged the paint on the frame.

– I want the frame to be a LOT lighter than the Reign.

Miles Murphy – one step closer to home

View from the balcony @ Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach.

Mama Mie Mie takes a break from breast feeding with a hot chocolate.

Grumpy Miles was still hungry for more milk.

Chomping his hands, he was still hungry even after a second feeding!

Jamie, Richie and baby Miles were moved from the hospital to the Coogee Crowne Plaza yesterday. Pretty interesting concept as they move new families to clear room at the hospital. Initially I thought it might have been more stressful as they had already moved different rooms at the hospital but after seeing Jamie and Richie today they were so glad they took up the (optional) offer.

I ran into Richie downstairs at the lobby buying himself a coffee and Jamie a hot chocolate, 3 day growth and all smiles as he just took a dip in the pool. The whole 6th floor is a maternity ward and the room is basically designed around a king sized bed facing the ocean. Awesome!

Jamie was a milk factory. At one stage I had a little go at holding baby Miles (can’t get over his little hands and feet, so detailed!) but Miles was starving and when he wasn’t feeding he was a little grumpy man. Everything has gone as smooth as it possibly could go and despite a severe lack of sleep both Mamma and Pappa are doing great!

Beginners – Screening and Q&A With Mike Mills

A few weeks ago Luca gave me the heads up on a special Q&A screening of Mike Mills new film Beginners at the Dendy cinema in Newtown. I quickly snapped up 2 tix for Christina and myself (lucky as it was a sold out event). It turns out Andrew and Murray form Semi-Permanent were hosting the screening.

From writer/director/graphic designer/illustrator Mike Mills comes a comedy/drama about how deeply funny and transformative life can be, even at its most serious moments. Beginners imaginatively explores the hilarity, confusion, and surprises of love through the evolving consciousness of Oliver (Ewan McGregor). Oliver meets the irreverent and unpredictable Anna (Melanie Laurent) only months after his father Hal (Christopher Plummer) has passed away. This new love floods Oliver with memories of his father who – following 44 years of marriage – came out of the closet at age 75 to live a full, energized, and wonderfully tumultuous gay life. The upheavals of Hal’s new honesty, by turns funny and moving, brought father and son closer than they’d ever been able to be. Now Oliver endeavors to love Anna with all the bravery, humour, and hope that his father taught him.

Such a beautiful film and I’m a huge Mills fan now. I related instantly to his Dad passing away, and how the experience gave him the immense strength and drive to make the film a reality. I’m hoping the film reaches more people, hopefully outside of the Dendy and into more mainstream cinemas. It’s beautiful, touching, moving, real and funny.

Visit the movie site, buy tickets at the Dendy and after the film be sure to check out Mike’s Begginers blog site for more insight.

Taste of Thai

BBQ chicken was great.

Ben in my Anja sunnies. Ben insists that the shape of his face doesn’t suit sunnies. I insist on trying to find sunnies to suit him ahaha.

Last night I had a good catch-up and dinner with Ben at Taste of Thai in Randwick (always good because Ben’s one of those guys I can openly talk about relationships with, fashion even). I’ve known of this place for years, have walked and driven past it many times, it’s always packed and I always knew it was only a matter of time before I was going to eat there.

The menus were well worn, it was packed and the food came out real fast. Tasty meals, reliable Thai, the way it should be!
