The plugs actually weigh 1.69g. Time for me to get more accurate scales!

sl8_weight
Current weight with the Lucendi plugs + Berk Lupina short (stolen from the SL6).

Lucendi saw my posts where I stated that his crazy light SUB1 bar end plugs didn’t fit on my SL8 due to the Burgh bar tape being too thick, and his plugs being too soft (they deformed when trying to get them on), so he reached out to me to ask if I’d be interested in custom smaller diameter plugs. What a champion! They came out at 0.82g making them possibly the lightest bar end plugs in the world. He also sent me his heavier but much more sturdy UL bar end plugs which come in at 1.69 grams for a pair. Both the SUB1 and UL fit on my SL8 without issues, and I actually like the more finished look of the UL bar end plugs so I’ve decided to keep those installed. Happy days!

Caffeine & Cranks bibs

caffeineandcranks_bibs

I’ve tried a few different brands but these Caffeine & Cranks bibs are hands down the best I’ve tried so far. Great fit and chamois, love the wide black shoulder straps and the super wide grippers on the legs are the bomb.

So super proud of Narada Kudinar who back in the day ran Circuit Club track days and for the past 8 years has been running his amazing restaurant Yan. Think Chinese food, but all the meats are smoked (“yan” means smoke in Mandarin). Highly recommend the Peking Duck which was unlike any Peking Duck I’ve ever had (will 100% be back for more!).

ZEN GARAGE is back, but what’s the difference this time around?

Last night’s ZEN relaunch was amazing. My intention was to get in touch with everyone in attendance a week later to ask for feedback, but I got all the feedback on the night instead!

I’m a strong believer in good ideas come from bouncing off others. IE: I’ve never come up with anything great on my own and my best work has always come from bouncing ideas off others. This was in full play last night. I had a fair few people ask me what the goal was for ZEN this time around, and over the night my response to the question took form.

I felt the old ZEN Garage got too big, we were reaching over a million people on Facebook alone and grew so large that people were buying ZEN merch because they saw others wearing it. At its height we were banging on the door of getting ZEN in General Pants Co. And IMHO if that happened it would have been the end of ZEN for good.

There was a sweet spot though, where people who were wearing ZEN had found their ZEN and they knew what we were all about, so much so that if you spotted someone else wearing ZEN out in the wild there was no doubt that you could walk up to them knowing you shared something in common. This sweet spot is where I’d like to get back to, and once there I want to fight to keep it there.

The new ZEN is not a business. It’s a community.

Nothing at all against my previous business partners, I love them all and I’m truly appreciative of all the learnings. They taught me a lot about running a business and I was criticised for treating the business like a hobby, but ultimately that’s where it’s at for me. Those that know me know that I don’t do things in halves. I’m best when I go all out on whatever hobby it is that I’m into at the moment, and now I’m at an age and place where I can afford to do that.

Last night’s launch event and overwhelmingly positive feedback gave me so much fuel. I’m truly looking forward to both connecting and reconnecting with passionate people who have found their ZEN.

What an epic night! Thanks to all who came along. I appreciate it more than you realise. So many faces I’ve not seen in years, such great conversations. So much energy. Such good vibes! It’s so good to be back.

I’m so happy! I can’t wipe the smile off my face. Much love and respect.

ZEN Jersey V2

I made a post on reddit asking for suggestions for small run custom kit. Due to analysis paralysis (there were SO many suggestions) I ended up making a cheap one off with vistaprint just to get my feet wet, and well… you get what you pay for.

The package came direct from China. It’s a white print on black, but the digital print looks more like a very pale light blue (has a slight blue tinge). Fit of the jersey itself is OK, it’s pretty long at the waist though and bottom edges (especially at the back) are very unfinished (it just flaps there, no grippy material to hold it down).

Lots of people suggested CUORE and they have an office in Alexandria so I’ll drop in and have a look. Attaquer are local too so I’ve sent them a message. Either way I’m definitely looking for better quality in both print and finish.
