Return to Loftus!

My Reign fits in the DC2R without taking the front wheel off, pretty cool.

My old K20A powered Jazz!

$100 Kmart bike, what a legend.

EP3R, car guys turned bike guys!

Group shot.

A couple of guys were first timers. No chamois, no camelbaks, no gloves!

The single trail has changed a lot since I last rode Loftus.

I’ve not ridden at all for so long. I rode Loftus once in May 2010, and once again in March last year. Crazy right? Especially considering I used to ride there every week.

I got news that some guys were riding this weekend. I also heard some newbies were going to be in attendance. The promise of a nice and easy slow ride was too tempting to pass so I found myself at the carpark 20 minutes early, excited and ready to roll!

My fitness levels are whack. I didn’t make it up the big hill. I always make it up that hill so I’m a little disappointed in myself. One guy had a very old Giant bike, doing it tough I thought until another dude rocked up with a $100 Kmart bike, complete with kick stand! All the new guys did awesome, all great guys too which made the ride fun.

More of this? I sure hope so! I want to get fit!

THRILLZ Scrambler

I sold my white one the other day at Zen Garage (to a guy who works for MTV and wanted to use it in a commercial on TV) so now I’ve got this black one built lovingly by Cliffy and Timmy, thanks boys! :)

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Shame I couldn’t find a copy with the old cover design.

I failed to read Orwell’s 1984 again (have not read it since high school) so I picked up ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ – a book that a fair few arty types were reading when I was studying design at College of Fine Arts many years ago.

I’m only a bit of the way in but I’m pretty hooked already. The guy’s very much in his head, rambles a lot and loves to psychoanalyse his mates. It’s a little annoying at times but I think I’ll stick with it, and see where it goes.

Deathtrap Project V2 Donor Bike

Fuji Feather.

Lovely headbadge features mount fuji and feather logo + stamped “Made in Japan”.

Moustache bars!

Alloy Suntour 7-GT rear derailleur.

French made Huret front derailleur.

And shifters.

Last week I found this vintage Fuji Feather on eBay. I put a bid on it, and won it for $56 which I think is a bargain (56 is my house number too!).

I’ve since done some research on it and from my finding’s it’s about as old as I am. From the mid 70’s. It’s got a Suntour 7-GT rear derailleur, one of the first derailleurs to feature alloy bits and it’s also got Huret parts on it, a French brand I’d never heard of before. Unfortunately it’s got 27inch wheels which makes converting it to a single speed a little harder than a new 700c with a rear cassette. I might see how I go keeping them. I have a spare 700c wheelset too so I’ll also test to see if the brake pads will come down enough to make the 700c wheelset work.

She’s heavy but she rides lovely, even with a flat front tyre. Brakes well too. Work on the motorised conversion starts ASAP!

Grey Daze

Super plush.

Free stickers always win me over.

The only Reg Mombassa I can afford.

I love a good mottled grey T, or sloppy joe.

El Jannah Charcoal Chicken

Hangin’ out West.

Worth the trek for this, the best Garlic Sauce in Sydney.

Charcoal Chicken was really tender tonight, what a feast!

We left no room for sweet treats from Abla’s. Better luck next time!

It’s been many months since I first ate at El Jannah Charcoal Chicken with the BMU boys and I’d been excited about it all day. Andy came and picked me up at 6PM, traffic wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be but it still took us an hour to get out west.

For $20 you get more food than you can eat but I was only there for the garlic sauce. I’d happily drive an hour out just to have that sauce with chips…SO DAMN GOOD! We stuffed ourselves, had plenty of laughs and afterwards we thought we’d check out Abla’s Patisserie which everyone that loves El Jannah seems to rave about. What a shop! I’ve never ever seen more variations of backlava in my life. Unfortunately all of us were way too stuffed to even think about buying some. Next time we’ll eat less at El Jannah’s and save some room for cake + coffee for sure.
