I say no to most commercial work these days but sometimes you just can’t say no! This is a branding design I’m just finishing up for a new women’s cycling label in the UK. The concept was to avoid the typical cliche women’s cycling aesthetic (soft fonts, pinks, purples, flowers and pretty things). Client is happy. I’m happy!
Something I’ve been working on for the past few months that many might not know about; before JDM Style Tuning there was Australian Infront, a not-for-profit design community I founded in 1999.
This year we’re making a book with Blurb Books which lifts talent from our FOLIO section on our web site. The book is being printed by Blurb as we speak, and will be distributed to Studios Australia wide giving the creatives featured in the book a lot of potential future work!
Keep an eye out for updates!

Their stickers are so awesome.
I’ve been internet friends with David of Import Bible for years now and we’ve both mutually supported each others ventures. He’s always had a great product. Super slick, super refined.

I went to support Nana who was invited to be a part of a panel discussion at this year’s inaugural CURVY Women’s Creative Conference at aMBUSH, Central Park.
There were 8 women on the panel and the topic was “The Art of making it”. The session kicked off with everyone introducing themselves with their story on how they got to where they are now (Nana’s story was particularly awesome, it really came from the heart).
Topics touched on Art vs. Design, making a living doing what you love. Having to do your time with crap work to make ends meet/gain experience. Business; Art schools should teach business, how to invoice, connections to legal help with agreements, etc. The topic of kids and a lack of time was brought up too; priority shifts as well as success stories of mothers who are creative directors at the top of their game. Social media, Instagram, how do Artists keep up with the pace of social media marketing. Advertising targeted specifically at women, connectivity, ultimately a lot was brought up in such a short period of time!

Talk posters pinned up around the design floor.

Getting ready to talk, of-course I had to have some music playing in the background!

Love these portrait paintings on the art floor.
I gave a 1hr Industry Design Talk at St George College yesterday. It’s been over a year since I last spoke, and I was a little more nervous and excited than usual this time around. I love public speaking, but it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve spoken, I still get nervous the night before!
Krysti goes to school there (she’s studying art) so like last time, she tagged along for a bit of support. I had to use a PC to present with, which really threw me off, so my visual presentation suffered but I’m sure I still inspired, and managed to say all the things I wanted to say!
I sincerely never thought I’d ever see my logo design work on a wheel, let alone a wheel made by one of the largest and most respected Japanese wheel manufacturers.
Well done to JDM Concept for this collab wheel design with Work Wheels Japan! I’m stoked, for me and them!

Hey look Mum! I’m on a sticker!!!
A little while back Anthony Crivelli of Build-Threads.com sent me some stickers along with a cool illustration of my GT-R, which also features myself peering out of a stack of Toyo R888 tyres. When I posted it online a few people expressed interest in buying it if it was on a T-Shirt, but I’ve decided to make a few stickers instead. You can find them in the Zen Shop: http://shop.zengarage.com.au
Anthony Crivelli of Build-Threads.com has traced his sketch of me and my GT-R in Illustrator and just for kicks, we’ll be making this a sticker soon!

Oh Shit. Scien and Klor on the stage.

Myself, Scien and Stella, my hot date for the night.
As part of Vivid Sydney I got to see 123KLAN (all the way from Canada) talk last night at aMBUSH Gallery Central Park. I first met Scien from 123KLAN 12 years ago at Semi-Permanent Conference. We clicked, he’s mad. Scien even tagged my name for my business cards back in the day.
The talk was awesome. I would have loved more time with this guy, but was great to briefly catch up with Scien before and after his talk.
