Buffalo Dining Club for lunch

Hot weather, cold beer and an absolutely delish feast @ Buffalo Dining Club.

Sushi Yachiyo

Love it. A hole in the wall, basically!

The menu – there was SO much to choose from. Too much! Will have to go back to try the lot.

Our waiter was very friendly, and very much into his sake. He brought out these 3 massive sake bottles and let us try all 3. We went for the one in the middle “enyu”. Beautiful stuff.

Sushi Yachiyo picks the best seafood from the fish markets daily, so we couldn’t go past the sushi and sashimi plate. It was amazing!

Nana ordered this Nabe Hotpot, what a wow dish! Served over a flame in paper! Yup, that’s basically a seafood udon noodle soup in a paper basket, lovely.

Nana’s Mum has been haunting a little sushi joint called Sushi Yachiyo for some time. Last night we both had a sushi craving so we thought we’d give it a go. It’s tiny, you have to book but we got there at 6PM sharp and luckily scored a table. The staff and food were awesome. What I didn’t get a picture of was the deep fried deep cheeks, damn those things were so good (melt in your mouth material!) that they were demolished way before the camera could focus.

Spice I Am

Best fish cake I’ve ever eaten (bit too hot for me though, had me sweating!).

Duck massaman was amazing.

Kah Tequila

Mia Tequila!

Nanami spotted these awesome hand painted and individually numbered Kah Tequila skulls at Camperdown Cellars in Darlinghurst. They’re not meant to be for sale anywhere outside the US, but the bottle shop owner managed to score a few pieces. Nana ended up buying a couple and I ended up buying one too to keep my Crystal Head Vodka skull company.

Tropicana Caffe

Spag bol & salad.

Ever since tropfest (used to go every year many many moons ago) I’ve always wanted to check out Tropicana Caffe, last night I finally did! I wasn’t expecting anything special (which was part of the fun of it), ordering off a lightbox was interesting, and having lots of big TV’s play music videos made me feel like I was in a 24hr restaurant at 3am in the morning.

Cutlery came in pre-packaged paper bags which then made me feel like I was in an airport lounge. Looking around at the other patrons I spotted lots of older ladies sporting arty frizzy hairstyles and thick frames glasses.

Lighting inside the cafe was an off-putting blue due tot he fluorescent tubes used in the kitchen, but people watching both inside and out was fun and the meal was reliable and un-pretentious. Loved it :)

Kensington Peking

Forget Peking Duck (boring!) go deep fried duck instead!

Frid so hard you can eat the bones.

Shredded beef. No place else does it this crunchy.

Shantung Chicken.

We had a last minute gathering of the troops last night and hit Kensington Peking. My fave Chinese restaurant (run by a chef which my family has been following since I was a little kid). Might not look pretty, but gahhhhh, so so good!

Sel et Poivre

Croque-Monsieur – A toasted snack with ham or chicken, served with frites. Served with egg ( …and its called a Croque- Madame!).

Sel et Poivre is a cafe on Victoria Rd in Darlinghurst which you’ve probably passed a billion times before, but never ate at. It’s 100% French; the staff are French and they serve you in French which makes you feel a little like you’re in Paris, kinda. The menu is great. I’ve had the Croque-Madame twice now, it’s delish!

Buffalo Dining Club

What to order what to order?!

Caught up with Felix and Di the other night, fresh(ish) from their one month trip in Europe. They hadn’t had any Italian food since their trip so we hit the Buffalo Dining Club.

I was a little late, so we had a fairly lengthy wait before getting a table. The place is tiny (used to be a Burgerman joint) but cozy, loud and fun. Everything on the menu is made to share, the cheese and meat starters were awesome and the mains were just as great. Service was great too. I’ll be haunting this place, me thinks. My new fave Italian ‘restaurant’ (if you could call it that) for sure.

Brown Sugar

I went for the breakfast platter. Was delish!

Nanami went for the black stone eggs.

Nana and I hit Brown Sugar in Bondi Beach for brunch today. The brunch menu read so well it had both of us indecisive about what to order. The dinner menu on the board looked even more amazing (will have to book in for sure).

Masuya

Nigorizake (cloudy sake) was recommended by our friendly waiter. We tried both versions, this one in particular had a fruity apple flavour.

Sashimi was amazing as usual.

Blood red tuna sushi took me back to Japan. I could have eaten just that all night long.

All sorts of goodness on a plate. We had many more amazing dishes, just too in the zone (eating) to take photos!

Nanami’s Mum treated us to an awesome feast at Masuya last night. She’s a local there, and called beforehand to make sure they’d hit it out of the park (and they sure did!). Definitely my fave place for sashimi and sushi now, no doubt.
