Star Projector

We have light!

Almost there!

As soon as it was finished we turned the lights out in the lounge room and… Boom!!!

We then went to the bedroom to test it out, awesome!

Whoooo!

I stumbled on some images of a bedroom on tumblr lit up with the galaxy, after some hunting around I found the device! It’s a cheap LED powered light which you have to build on your own. The instructions are rubbish (they’re wrong) but there’s an easy to follow video online which makes putting this gizmo together quite easy (not that I did a thing, Alain and Glenn made it!).

The results are stunning! Can’t wait to do a shoot with it!

Elissa

Another Day Another Shoot! Quite a while back Dale from DM Motorsport (who worked the wheel alignment on my MX5) asked me if I’d be keen to shoot his girlfriend Elissa. We never managed to hook it up until today.

Turns out Elissa’s studying graphic design, she also work part time as a Hooters Girl! Surprisingly it was a really tough shoot. Low light which I’m still not 100% comfortable in, and Elissa was super nervous (despite us both sharing an interest in graphic design and me talking my head off as usual!!!). I do pride myself on making my models feel comfortable, and have had such great feedback from the girls I’ve shot with in regards to this, but Elissa’s not a model and I’m not that great with direction, that and the low light made for a lot of shots I just couldn’t use.

In the end I’m glad we moved from the bedroom into the lounge room where I got Elissa to just sit, chill and play with her phone. I took myself out of her face, whacked the 25mm lens on and stood quite far back to capture some of the shots above, which I’m really happy with actually. Little lesson in persistence for me!

Stu-Stu-Studio

I think a set-up like this would have been but a dream 10 years ago, but on eBay this kit cost me $200 shipped which I think is awesome value! Sure, it’s cheap stuff (just like the light tent I bought a few years back for shooting Zen products), but it works. The kit came with a green and a black backdrop sheet too. I’m thinking they’re a bit transparent, might have to look at upgrading the material in future.

Zip Tap Service

New filter goes in.

That small world stuff never ceases to amaze me. I’ve been meaning to replace the filter cartridge in my Zip unit for ages now. It’s just another one of things that I haven’t gotten around to (I’m horrible like that!).

Somehow, through the powers of the universe, a guy by the name of Maurice Menghi sent me a message on facebook, turns out he’s: A) A mate of Kevin Vo, who was a designer I used to hang out with during early Australian INfront days. B) He’s been over my place before to service my Zip tap under warranty. C) He’s a car guy!

Maurice has set up his own plumbing business now so I got him over to service the Zip unit. Champ was in and out in 10 minutes (well he would have been if we weren’t chin wagging so much!).

Anyways, free plug for Black & Gold Plumbing, if you need a plumber, be sure to give Maurice a call!

A lot more corrosion than I thought (too far pitted for Autosol to fix), a shame, but it adds a lot of character IMHO!

Eames Aluminium Group

I scored 2 amazing Eames Aluminium Group chairs today. Mum’s moving into a much smaller house and can’t fit these in her new home so she’s very generously given them to me. These chairs were designed in 1958, unbelievable right?! They’re so modern, corporate, fantastic lines, timeless!

Bose SoundLink III Bluetooth Speaker

I’d gotten sick of my old Bose sound dock not charging my old iPhone (which I only have music on) and not accepting my new iPhone, and lately I’ve been paying music from the Zen Tumblr off my laptop with some external Bose speakers plugged in. It was all just getting too messy so I splashed out on my B’Day and bought myself this little bluetooth speaker.

There were many options out there, most of which were way cheaper but at $400 I still think this is a steal in comparison to how much I once used to have to pay for great sound. Within minutes I had my iPhone and laptop connected, streaming Rob’s Soundcloud. Sounds amazing, as expected. Very happy!

Found – Kid Paintings

Mum’s moving house and she’s been storing some stuff at my place mid-move. I came come and found these on my dining table. The dinosaur made with little pebbles stuck onto a masonite board brought a massive smile to my face as I still have a vague memory of making this in year 5. The other 3 pieces I have no memory of, so can’t tell how old I was when I painted them. The man under the sea is pretty interesting! I do remember digging Aquaman on the TV every morning as a kid?!

Shoot with Christine Joy Somera

Spent my Monday funday with gamer and Star Wars fanatic Christine Joy yesterday. Had initially planned to maybe shoot her out at Cockatoo Island, but decided to stay in my comfort zone, literally, by having a lazy day shooting her at home.

Really happy with the results. Just the right amount of light (it was on and off all day) and little Christine (she’s tiny!) was such a pleasure to hang with.
