Picking up birds :)

Pretty flowers are pretty.

Amazing view.

Uncle Toshi showing us some amazing footage of a Sake Brewery in Japan. The man has an amazing eye!

“Happiness” – Sake cups. Pressies for Nana from Japan.

The birdies, safely at Nanami’s.

Helped Nanami transport a couple of birdies today. Her relo’s are over from Japan and her Mum’s taking them all for a trip to Tassie so Nana’s put her hand up to look after the birds.

Her Mum’s place is amazing, there’s so much to look at, everywhere (so much stuff has gone in, probably nothing much has gone out!) my eyes failed to settle on any one thing!

I got to meet her amazing Uncle Toshi too who’s an EMI award winning Director (check out “Dream Window” here), he shared some footage of a job he’s working on for a Sake Brewery in Japan. Think snow, so heavy that the footage looks black and white. Lovingly framed, can’t wait to see the final results!

Bye bye Max :(

Max & Mia.

Since late last year I’ve noticed Max getting more and more demanding to the point of destroying stuff in the house, meowing a lot, pissing on things he’s not meant to, he even shat in the middle of my office (knowing that’s where I spend a lot of my time!!!).

He needs a LOT of love as he’s the sookiest most affectionate cat I’ve ever met. I’m hardly home at all these days so I’ve been pushing Christina to take him (being single right now I can’t help but feel like cat man too with 2 cats!), problem is, she’s got a dog! She’ll be moving out in August and can take Max then, but she’s been looking for someone to take him off me until then. The first friend fell through a few months ago, but some new friends have decided to take him on and yesterday I said goodbye.

Super sad :( Mia’s been following me around the house everywhere, she’s being all vocal now too, and hearing that Max has been hiding behind the bed of the new owners place all night and this morning too makes me feel rotten :(

Goodbye Salty

Dave came around to pick up the tank this morning. It was really smelling up the entire house, so gross!

I was expecting the wooden floorboards under the tank to be totally destroyed by the salt, but hey check it out! It’s totally fine! :) Now to find something exciting to sit in the tanks place.

Goodbye Salty, you’ll be missed

It’s over.

Thursday night Carmen and Alan came over to tear down my very neglected saltwater tank. Now that I work at Zen Garage I’ve just got no time for tank maintenance.

Tearing it down was a HUGE job and it’s amazing how rapidly things deteriorate when things are going bad (tank crash they call it). Carmen has taken all the fish and corals, gear too. What a mess… free 6ft tank with stand and lights if anyone wants it! I just want it gone!

Positives: The house is super quiet now, damn the tank pumps were loud. I should save thousands/year on electricity too.

Aquarium Update

Bleaching acro. :(

It’s that time of year again, heat builds up in the house and water temperature shoots up. It’s not so much an issue except that I keep hard corals, the hardest corals to keep in an aquarium. Just like the barrier reef, when the water heats up too much the corals bleach (die). And last night I came home to a temperature reading of 29.5 degrees and 2 bleached corals, shame as my tank has been doing so well.

Last year I had a huge fan blowing across the surface of the water, it helped pull down the temperature by 2 degrees but it blew up, in flames too. Luckily I was around to hear, smell and then see and put out the flames. I could have lost the whole house!

I won’t be taking the risk this time. If all my hard corals die I’ll just have to admit defeat and I’ll still to easier soft corals (which don’t seem to mind the heat).

Saving the worst for last I also lost my Dori the other day. I’ve had my blue tang since November 2007. They’re not an easy fish to keep so I’ve done well in keeping it so long, but not well enough. Can’t tell what killed it, the temp, lack of food (looked skinny). I won’t be buying a replacement. :(

The Max

All big eyed and fluffed up in the morning.

Tough cnut Max. This was last night, he was sitting on the couch funny with his arms up on the couch armrests.

He’s 6-7 months old now? He’s heavy and his head is tiny, but his body is HUGE. He’s going to be a big boy!

Tanks December 2010 – now comparo

DECEMBER 2010.

TODAY.

Love the acro growth! I had no idea until I dug up an older photo. Such an awesome feeling to know I’m growing the most demanding stuff you can keep in a salt water aquarium, with ease too! Pat on the back me!
