Zen Garage Grand Opening

Race Harness for crowd control.

Calm before the storm, a shot Sergio took earlier this morning with his iPhone.

People were queuing up since 11am for a 1pm launch!

DJ Dirty Dim Sum was spinning killer tunes all day, he hadn’t slept from a gig the night before. Dedication!

The first 30 people got a show bag full of goodies.

Sergio’s EVO.

Zen Garage RPRSNT!

Sergio’s been a great help getting the space ready, and running the day today too.

BBQ didn’t last long! I missed out and ate lunch at 6PM!

PlusSixOne RPRSNT!

Kory and Matthew, caught with the lens cap on.

The counter.

At one stage there were people all along the counter, 4 rows deep waiting to pay for goods.

Busy busy!

Gamers.

Photo by Geoffrey’s Wang (rest pf the photos are his too, our man outside).

Diverse crowd today, so awesome.

My old uni buddy James dropped in, blast from the past was great… and what a ride!!!

Wing it.

SO exhausted right about now. On a high, so tired from the stress, the joy, the excitement… what a day! We honestly could not have hoped for a better launch. The community really came out to support us, and we sold so much stock over the 3hrs, it was nuts! I only managed to rattle off a few shots, there were a LOT of photographers in attendance though, you’ll find more pictures on JDMST and Facebook.

OUTPOST PROJECT

Flashbacks of shutter island. Riven even.

Mind blowing stuff right?

Damn should have brought a picnic.

Roa.

Nanami chalking one up.

Andy Uprock.

Made of plastic cups stuffed into the fence.

Ears.

Banksy was here.

Will Coles.

These Japanese breakers were going off. The Red Bull Shadow Wars had b-boys and b-girls from around the country battling it out in front of a pretty huge energetic crowd.

The warm-up floor was pretty cool to watch too.

You can actually pay to camp overnight on the island, or even rent one of the houses at the very top if camping isn’t your thing. The sheer amount of work on display had me wondering whether the artists actually camped out whilst they put Outpost together.

Then we found this hole in the wall.

The tunnel was lined with art, and went forever. Reminded me of the entrance to the batcave.

James Jirat.

Ears.

As huge as it gets with a spray can.

Prosciutto pizza at the bar was awesome. Beers, wines, champagne, people were getting wasted in the sun, trapped at the bar!

Beers and pong!

Oh hai it’s James!

Ben Bigeni & Ken Taylor battling it out live at Secret Wars.

This T-Shirt exhibit was crazy tight. Would work as a standalone exhibit anywhere in the world.

I’ll take that one, and that one… and that one and that one.

Kid Zoom got arty with it.

The OUTPOST PROJECT has to be the most massive street art project I’ve ever seen to date. My visit there yesterday left me gobsmacked (great to see our Govt. get behind something like this!).

Held at Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour more than 150 renowned artists have been let loose on the entire island. In sheds, on walls, fences, anything and everything was covered in art.

You have until the 11th to check it out. If you’ve got nothing to do right now I highly suggest you check it out (bring your mates). Entry is free, you just need to pay for your ferry ride (ferry rides are always fun right?!) and the island itself is amazing. What was a dockyard during WWII is now a barron industrial landscape. I spent half the day checking out the art, the other half just exploring the island!

Scrape scrape!

Scrape scrape!

I’m JUST about sick of having a super low car. I scrape my front lip on pretty much everything. I’ve already advised the new owner (who’ll take ownership of the car next week) to raise the car up an inch or 2. I’m hoping the next car will allow me to fly over speed humps at speed!

In ELMO we trust

Clifton & Timmy helping out.

All 3 of us on it at the same time.

Finishing touches.

All done!

Tunes @ Zen! I’ve donated my Bose iPod stereo from home.

Beer’O’Clock came early at Zen Garage today as ELMO, our handy Japanese overhead projector came out to play. Luckily for us Clifton and Timmy dropped in to hang out, unfortunately for them they were instantly put to work! It took us way longer than we thought it would but the results are awesome. We’ve now built a change room too! More progress and photos over the weekend.

Illest

Ill right?

Super excited today as our Illest Stock arrived at Port Botany! That’s early as we were expecting stock mid December. In anticipation I’ve uploaded some of our stock onto the Zen Garage online shop. I’ve been a bit of a data entry monkey all day, feeling like a robot… but hey I’m charged and I want one of everything for myself (I need a new wardrobe anyways!).

Visit: http://zengarage.com.au/shop – Would really appreciate it if you spread the word, even better,, buy stuff!!! :)

Infront Insight #09: Toby&Pete

Poster.

Toby & Pete.

Their presenter, ready to go.

Talking at the Apple Store must be a unique experience. You have to stand up on this little black box, in front of you there’s an audience, behind the audience are Apple Store customers and to the right of you there’s George St foot and road traffic.

Outside Inside.

We like to get our speakers to sign their posters post talk. Apple records the talks too and the Podcasts go live on iTunes.

Last night we invited dynamic duo Toby&Pete to speak at our monthly Infront Insight talk at the Apple Store Sydney. Was an amazing talk, these guys are awesome at what they do, and they’ve created a superteam of sorts. It’s our last talk for the year too, hopefully we’ll be invited to do more talks at the Apple Store next year!

JDMST EOMM

That’s me, trying to calm the Police down (photo by Aleks.b).

The JDMST End Of Month Meets have been running since 2005. We’ve had a LOT of them at Fox Studios (EQ) car park, sometimes we’ve been kicked out, other times we’ve managed to get away with it but the meet last Tuesday night was the most dramatic so far, with over 300 cars being kicked out in force by the local Police. It’s a tough call, we can’t afford to hire out a proper venue (liability insurance etc) and ultimately we’re just a group of car guys who like to meet up offline once a month, hey we even paid $6 to get into the car park!

There’s been a lot of discussion on JDMST, a lot of pictures too. A lot of the new members are fearing that we’ll never be allowed back to Fox Studios again, little do they know we’ve been going back there for years. Just because you get kicked out of a car park doesn’t mean there won’t be any future meets! Culture wins, we’re not doing anything wrong. We’ll forge on, as we’ve always done!
