a7S VS GF6

Sony a7S

Carl Zeiss UV Filter. So clear that it’s a bit trippy.

Feels good to hold, but the springy shutter button feels a bit cheap and nasty.
The decision was made to upgrade to a Sony a7S with Zeiss 55mm F1.8. Daniel from OFIM put me on to a good deal with Marcus at digiDIRECT in Westfield’s Bondi Junction. I ended up taking the camera home, and bought a Zeiss UV Filter to protect the lens, a new memory card too.
The camera comes with 2 batteries! That’s pretty cool. The charger is pretty slim, and there’s a USB/wall charger too so I had both batteries charging in no time. It’s substantially bigger and heavier than my GF6 setup, but it’s nowhere near as heavy as Matt or Ved’s DSLR setups. The focussing feels slower than my GF6, either way I’m looking forward to playing with this camera!

Photoshoot Cara Lee
Had a great shoot yesterday with Malaysian girl Cara Lee, a little pocket rocket who brought along heaps of energy. Always makes a huge difference when you can converse well with your models! Follow Cara on Instagram: @nomediocre_x

Photoshoot Jaymee Amber
Had a snappy shoot with Jaymee yesterday. Jaymee reached out to me on Facebook after seeing photos I took with Shontelle, she was more than happy to pay for a shoot but I’m still not so comfortable with charging (needs more thought!), and I was having a good day, so I just said yes!
I’d like to keep shooting just for the fun of it, but then again I do want to upgrade to a full frame camera after playing around with Matthew Mead’s setup last weekend at the Zen Photowalk. Hopefully I’ll be upgrading tomorrow thanks to internet friends who chimed in with lots of great suggestions on my Facebook profile.
PS: More photos on my Tumblr (NSFW!): http://justinfox.tumblr.com

Monday Fundays

First stop, Pier 8 Cafe at Millers Point for lunch.

Such a beautiful space on the inside.

Bang on lunch time!

Despite how awesome the decor was inside, it was sunny outside so Krysti and I decided to sit in the sun.

Spanakopita! Delicious and light Greek spinach and Persian feta pie.

Also delicious, Risotto with white wine, chicken, sweet peas, asparagus and regianno.

Snipered! After lunch we headed off the the Art Gallery of NSW to check out some Pop Art!

This would sit right at home at Deus Cafe.

OMFG a Barbara Kruger! Such an awesome surprise.

The Real Deal.

Haha! Krysti.

Warhol Twister anyone?!

Haha! Krysti!

Zen Photowalk 2
Zen Photowalk #2 was to Cockatoo Island! Perfect weather (luckily it wasn’t the day before, where temperatures were through the roof) and a much bigger crowd than our first Photowalk! Was such a great day out. Matthew Mead and I are already discussing locations for the next one! Look out for the full feature, featuring work from all the photographers on the day, on Zen Blog soon.

Group Shot! In the end one of the staff from inside the office came out to shoot it for us.

The first of many more gulls we saw that day.

Stefan and Milly were already on the island when we arrived.

Matt was only sweet to Milly to steal her camera.

Photographer Extraordinaire. Garry Trinh. Check out his work here, he’s amazing.

Turns out it’s breeding season and there were gulls laying eggs everywhere.

One of 2 deep tunnels.

Something I’ve always wondered. What do baby gulls look like. Now I know!!!

Mead directing Moo loves to direct. Firmly! So direct!

We ended it with pizza and beers at the bar.

Prosciutto Pizza is tha bomb!

Sunset Moo.

On the express ferry home. Goodbye Cockatoo Island. You were awesome.

Hey Bill!

Selling my R32 Golf
A few months ago I was offered $50k for my R32 GT-R. Biggest offer to date so I sincerely thanked the guy who made the offer. It was a decent one which had me in a spin for a night, but I kindly refused.
The last few weeks I’ve had an offer of $37k for my R32 Golf. I’ve been in a spin about it every day since.
I did intend to sell it a little while back (I even put it up on carsales) for a classic 70’s 911, which I had always planned to get when I turn 40 (next May!), but the 911 dream is dead, mainly because they’ve just become a bit too “trendy” for my liking.
I love both cars too much. The Golf has been the perfect daily for me. It’s loud and angry when I want it to be, and at the press of a button it’s silent and can easily sit 4 full sized adults, has great audio and leather interior (heated seats! So good in winter). It’s mostly invisible to the authorities (full engineers cert helps) and when I’m in it and a C63 pulls up next to me at the lights I don’t wish I was in the GT-R (which has been the case with many of my previous daily drivers).
So I’ve been chewing on this great offer for my Golf, and this morning I thought I’d wash the car. After touching it (lol), and seeing it clean I’ve made my mind up! Nope, she’s not for sale! Haha (cool story bro?).
