Paddington Reservoir

Checked out the newly developed Paddington Reservoir today. For as long as I could remember it’s always been a fenced up Petrol Station from the past, what they’ve done is amazing and reminded me of ruins I’ve visited in Greece, but with a modern design touch. Well worth checking out, click here for more info.

Aus Infront Presents: Sounds & Visions

Speakers getting to know each other in the ‘Green Room’, hidden deep behind Apple’s Store facade.

Ready to hit the stage: Rhett, Damien, Dave, Sonny and Andy.

On stage.

As always we hit the awesome Grasshopper Bar afterwards for epic catch-ups and much chin wagging.

‘Aus Infront Presents’ is a series of talks put together by the team at Aus Infront (myself, Damien and Zaan) and Apple. Set to inspire and challenge – these talks will feature leading Australian creatives across a number of fields. Open to the general public, these talks are completely free.

Our twelfth talk last night was a panel discussion on the topic ‘Sounds & Visions’, regarding art and design in the music industry. On the stage we had Sonny Day from WBYK, Andy Kelly from Winterman & Goldstein, David Homer from design studio Debaser and director Rhett Wade-Ferrell from Moopjaw.

Made for an inspirational insight, especially the Q&A session at the end.

Field Trip update

With quite some time to go until Field Trip Creative Conference Melbourne (20th of April) I’m glad to say that we’ve got only 100 more tickets to sell before it’s a sell out full house event! Our nerves in relation to ticket sales are somewhat calmed but we’re just as (perhaps even more) excited about how it’s all going to pan out.

As mentioned earlier, the concept revolves around process. I’ve been to countless creative conferences where the speaker on stage shows off their folio for an hour. Whilst that’s all good and dandy, what really inspires me is seeing HOW people make things. Process is king and for a speaker to give away their secrets, live, on stage is a big ask, one that we’ve managed to convince our speakers to do!

Field Trip

Field Trip is a new conference from Australian Infront and Jacky Winter. We’re pretty damn excited about this!!! The first one is taking place this April the 20th at ACMI in Melbourne. It’s not your regular run of the mill conference either: Think live action, taking a brief on stage. IE: No portfolio slide shows here, 100% process process process! Head on over to http://www.thefieldtrip.com.au/ for artist info, tickets, schedules and more!

PS: I’d really personally appreciate it if you could spread the news on this one. It’s been a long time coming, and with your help we’re hoping it’ll be a huge success. :)

Airtasker

My task.

Hard yakka.

Some mates of mine have just launched a new business: Airtasker. The concept is pretty simple:

Airtasker is a community marketplace where people can outsource everyday tasks and errands to friendly and reliable people.

I decided to give it a go last week. Functionally, the site itself is crazy dynamic (not to mention it looks nice and friendly too). It’s one thing to be able to think of an idea for a site, but another to actually be able to go ahead and develop a custom solution to suit your needs and that’s exactly what these guys have done.

I put up a simple task to get someone to move a load of bricks out the front of Zen Garage (they were ugly!), to the back of the complex. Someone bid on the job in no time, and he was over, in the rain, to move the bricks pronto!

Infront Presents ‘Workshop’

Apple Store Bondi.

Love the trees.

The share tables made portfolio reviewing easy. Vibe was all-together different to the city store, much more relaxed.

Vince ‘the man’ Frost, surrounded by keen ears, in the zone!

Infront Presents Workshop went down at the Apple Store in Bondi Junction yesterday afternoon. Massive thanks to Apple, students in attendance and our portfolio reviewers: Vince Frost, Chris Doyle, Toby Pike, Pip Jamieson, Andrew Moffitt, Sam Adeloju and Jon Christensen for making it a great success. Photos are now up on our Facebook Page.
