No rest for the weary

Rengaya in North Sydney for Stevey’s B’day.

Charlie!

Wagyu, so over it, so fatty… the marbling looks really pretty but doesn’t it?

BBQ, always good :)

The B’day guy.

After getting off the plane I had time to get some photos up, then I was off to Steve’s 27th B’day dinner with the guys (and a few girls too!) at Rengaya in North Sydney. I was tired, but hey I confirmed I was in before the Melbourne trip and besides… I needed to eat in any case! I had a good catchup with my mate Chris and Charlie, always awesome. Food was not so awesome though. Great if you’re a wagyu fan but I’ve had it enough times to know I’m over the fattiness. Black Angus wins it for me, any day of the week!

INfront VR05 @ Melbourne – Day 2

Andrew, Christina and I rolled out of bed late and hit Atomica on Brunswick.

I had the El Gringo Eggs, what you can’t see buried under all that badass goodness was a huge smoked potato rosti, so so so good.

Spotted on Brunswick. About as cool as a postie bike can get.

We headed to my hotel for lunch with Jeremy as well as Toby and Pete.

Jeremy smashed (skulled!) 2 coffee’s in a row.

Jeremy’s electronic cigarette.

Lightning bolt straw. Many more beers than intended were consumed. Was just so nice up on the roof top, time flew by.

Psycho bike spotted on the way back to the apartments.

I’ve got a thing for macarons now, can’t resist them.

Later that night we checked out Naked For Satan.

The interior and graphic design is whack. Love it.

Loved their food concept too. An honesty based system where you just keep your toothpicks and pay $2/toothpick at the end of the night.

Despite the absolutely freezing cold, we had a great time in Melbourne. I’m crazy tired, and I feel very dehydrated from all the beer (and lack of water!), also bloated from all the fantastic food. No stopping though. Steve’s B’day dinner at Rengaya in 20 minutes, time to jet!

INfront VR05 @ Melbourne – Day 1

INfront put us up at the Tyrian serviced apartments on Johnston St. in Fitzroy, right in the middle of all the action, only a short walk away from The Compound Interest too.

The apartments were very nice, very new.

We headed down to The Compound Interest to start setting up the exhibit. I stopped in my tracks when I saw this outside.

1973 Honda CB350 Twin. What a beauty.

Modern Motor Cycle Company operates from The Compound Interest.

More bikes inside.

Myself and Damien. After I was done gawking at the bikes, we got started setting up.

The “woman” posters we had pinned up around Melbourne thanks to many helping hands.

Sonny from We Buy Your Kids, Zann and Damien setting up the prints.

Sonny, Biddy and Andrew did an awesome job with laying out the top 20 on show.

Jeremy’s pup!

The sponsors who helped to make our show happen.

Tiger Beer were our beers sponsors!

We were so busy setting up we skipped lunch, at 2.30PM Lorena saved us all with some awesome toasted sandwiches from CIBI next door.

Next thing we knew it was 6PM and on the dot people started rocking up to check out the show.

We were lucky to have Simon Winkler from RRR busting out great tunes for the night.

Our bar guy Menake had a mad rush from 6-7PM.

We were all happy with the great turnout, it was a huge space to fill!

Unfortunately at 7PM all the beer had run out!

At 8PM we called it a night and hot a local pub.

Damien, Alicia and Lorena.

Pie + peas + mash. Absolutely smashed it.

Andrew from Kindred was our room mate, great guy to hang out with for sure.

Yes it’s been said before, Melbourne Graff kicks Sydney graff, hard.

VWGolf.net.au Ribs Night

Hurricanes Bondi Beach.

Wow Cow in Dalringhurst for dessert.

VWGolf.net.au monthly Schnitzel nights are still going strong (1st Wednesday of every month). Last night we hit Hurricanes in Bondi Beach to have ribs for a change. It’s always have to tell which I like better, Hurricanes, or Kelly’s. When I’m at Kelly’s I think Kelly’s are better, and last night I thought Hu8rricanes was better!

Ferry to Manly

Hi Genevieve! I met up with Suga and Gen in Surry. They were having post lunch drinks at The Winery. The lush outdoor garden like setting reminds me of Melbourne for some reason.

Christina’s Giggly Rose Cocktail.

Sun setting on the Ferry cruise into Manly.

Suga and I.

Docking at Manly.

The macaroons lived up to the name.

We smashed our Pie + Macaroons here.

Cheery American bar waitress at the 4 Pines Brewery was celebrating the 4th of July.

Sake’s amazing Tuna Tasting Plate.

It’s been ages since Suga and I caught a Ferry to Manly, and despite the weather being cold, as well as a little on/off we took a chance. Luckily the rain never came and we got to watch the sun set as the ferry ported us over to Manly.

Through some research I found out that Adriano Zumbo had a shop in Manly so we went about tracking it down. Initially we walked straight past it, with some help from the Google map on my iPhone we found the shop, which was basically a hole in the wall!

We stocked up on lots of macaroons + a pie too. Pie wasn’t crash hot but the macaroons are really nice. We had a drink at the 4 Pines (they brew and sell their own beer there, a must go if you’re a beer lover) and thought about dining in Manly. Hugo’s and Garfish were our options, but then we thought we’d just catch the ferry back and give Wildfire a go, once we saw how quiet Wildfire was, and how heavy the menu looked we decided to drop in to Sake to see if they had a table for us!

We ended up getting a sunken table, which was really just a raised up table that you sit into (I suppose they couldn’t dig holes into the ground floor!). Hard to get into but once in it was fun. Tuna Tasting Plate still blows my socks off every time. Everything else we had was nice too, but the tasting plate is just so good that everything else pales in comparison.

Tour de France time now. I can hear the spectator horns beeping upstairs. Macaroons await. Banzai!

Wagaya!

Always book for 6 so you get a booth, the booths rock.

Stephen + Cam.

Cam loved the touch screen ordering system.

Asahi, served in record breaking time as usual.

Sushi Roulette! I was hoping our guest Cam would get the one which had copious amounts of wasabi in it, and too right he copped it!

Hot Sake, so good.

I love green tea ice cream but the black sesame at Wagaya was way nicer.

Great night last night. We took Cam to Wagaya last night. He’s a country boy, not had much Japanese at all so we thought we’d treat him to something different. He loved the ordering system, the food too even if he did cop the huge wasabi hit in the salmon sushi roulette!

Banana Palm

Entrees – Salt and pepper chilli squid, Soft shell crab and crispy marinated quail on a papaya salad.

Mains – Steamed fillet of barramundi, warm duck breast salad, stir fried beef.

Dessert – The fanciest fried banana I’ve ever seen.

Had dinner with some visiting relos at Banana Palm tonight in Coogee Beach. I’ve eaten here once before, many years ago. They serve up Vietnamese Cuisine, nothing traditional, more fusion, so much so that I thought 2 of their dishes were outright Chinese, and nothing at all like the Vietnamese food I’m used to. Strange meal, really hit and miss. Some dishes were OK but some weren’t great. The fried banana dessert was almost saved the night except the pear on the plate was nicer than the banana’s themselves!

Rockpool Bar & Grill

Sign and menu from the outside.

So much on the menu but my eyes always focus on this bit.

I always love checking out the $40k+ wines on the wine list, but we went for a much more modest Wynns Coonawarra 1994 Cab Sav Black Label (my fave drop of red).

We were there early and service was crazy fast.

Who needs fancy presentation when the produce is this good?

Cam and Suga.

Jason and Alison.

The Pavlova was massive. Cam smashed it too!

Haven’t had a great steak since the Tassie Trip so when Cam (who was with us in Tasmania) was in town we thought we’d line up a dinner at Rockpool Bar & Grill for a killer steak. Jason, who was also with us on the Tassie trip came too so it was almost like a re-union of sorts!

All of us were on Facebook the night before, starving just thinking about the steak, and Rockpool didn’t disappoint. There’s so much awesome stuff on the menu. I’d love to try it all, but every time I’ve been I just go straight for the grain fed steak on the bone. Can’t help it!!!

Hotpot night

Christina organised a hot pot night with the guys and gals at her parent’s place last night (they’re away on holidays). Always awesome, the special peanut sauce is the shizz.

It seems like every time this crew get together we go for a bender.

Gee and Robby.

Jon and Jono.

Jon “planking”. New to me?!

Jono planking.

Planking gone mad.

Christina and Nat.

The girls.
