George Nelson Bubble Lamps

Budget ran out so we bought this Ikea light to replace my crazy shade (which I sill love btw).

Today we finally got around to getting our George Nelson Bubble Lamps installed. I’ve been living in this house for over 5 years and I’ve always planned to get rid of the horrible lights but there’s stuff all out there that I like.

I’ve always had a soft spot for George Nelson’s Bubble Lamps. The Bubble Lamp was first designed in 1947 and a US company has reissued the Nelson Bubble Lamps to the original specifications, using the original tooling. They’re super expensive so I’ve never really entertained the idea of getting some. I’ve often thought I’d buy replicas but his legal team must be super tight as no-one has dared to come close to his designs.

A few months ago Suga and I finally bit the bullet and bought some on the one day which Spence & Lyda have a store-wide sale.

We freaked out today when our electrician was installing the first one with filthy black hands. We kindly asked the guy to leave the protective plastic on the lights whilst installing, even then he did a pretty rough job and made a mess of the place but hey, that was to be expected.

They look awesome, we’re super happy with how they sit (took us a few goes to get the height right).
