A little while back myPlates asked me to design some JDM inspired plate designs. These are the results, and most of the community is voting for design “B” which makes me happy as that’s the plate design I wanted passed.

I’ve had a few die-hard JDM fans critique the design though, suggesting it needs to be EXACTLY like plates in Japan in order for it to work. What these guys don’t realise is that I’ve had to work within very strict confines. IE: I can’t just print anywhere on a plate. There’s a strict grid of where content can go, where the numbers and letter have to go, etc. I also can’t use the Japanese font for letters and numbers as the letters and numbers on all plates in NSW have to pass number recognition technology (speed cameras and the like). Having said all that, with the huge amount of people voting for design “B” I’m sure I can push a little to have it as close as possible to the Japanese plate design. We’ll see!

I really hope B passes, this will be the push that will finally seem me get personalised plates again haha, good work mate.

    • Justin Fox says:

“B” will most likely make it!

hello Justin I’ve been keeping an eye out in the RTA my plates website and hoping and waiting at for months that your designs for the JDM number plates will appear, I just wanted to know if they will consider any of them in the close future?

  2. Rob says:

Are these on a trajectory for release later in the year, or are they just on a fishing expedition at present and there’s no roadmap for a release yet?

    • Justin Fox says:

Yup at least one of these will 100% make it!!!

      • Rob says:

That’s really exciting. Will they only be letter-letter-number-number (which I guess is a $440 kind of combo at present), or will they squeeze more on there?

  3. Richard Ma says:

I like B and C. Knowing how incessant they can be, the other plates will probably cop flak from Koreans lol

  4. Oli says:

Are there any updates on this Justin?

  5. Daniel says:

Has this made any more progress?? After seeing the release of jap style plates in vic it convinced me i have to have them..

  6. Jake says:

  8. Kevin Phetrasi says:

Any news on when the plates are going to be released in NSW?

    • Justin Fox says:

  9. Abdul says:

    Dear Justin Fox

Have there been any updates since? Really keen to get these on my car. I know design B has already been implemented in VIC (well done by the way, excellent design), how much longer until they are implemented in NSW.

    Thanks!

  10. Eric says:

Can you pease just make them like the Japanese plates avaliable in Victoria.

They hit the ball out of the park. Even the colors are green.
