INfront VR05 @ Melbourne – Day 1

INfront put us up at the Tyrian serviced apartments on Johnston St. in Fitzroy, right in the middle of all the action, only a short walk away from The Compound Interest too.

The apartments were very nice, very new.

We headed down to The Compound Interest to start setting up the exhibit. I stopped in my tracks when I saw this outside.

1973 Honda CB350 Twin. What a beauty.

Modern Motor Cycle Company operates from The Compound Interest.

More bikes inside.

Myself and Damien. After I was done gawking at the bikes, we got started setting up.

The “woman” posters we had pinned up around Melbourne thanks to many helping hands.

Sonny from We Buy Your Kids, Zann and Damien setting up the prints.

Sonny, Biddy and Andrew did an awesome job with laying out the top 20 on show.

Jeremy’s pup!

The sponsors who helped to make our show happen.

Tiger Beer were our beers sponsors!

We were so busy setting up we skipped lunch, at 2.30PM Lorena saved us all with some awesome toasted sandwiches from CIBI next door.

Next thing we knew it was 6PM and on the dot people started rocking up to check out the show.

We were lucky to have Simon Winkler from RRR busting out great tunes for the night.

Our bar guy Menake had a mad rush from 6-7PM.

We were all happy with the great turnout, it was a huge space to fill!

Unfortunately at 7PM all the beer had run out!

At 8PM we called it a night and hot a local pub.

Damien, Alicia and Lorena.

Pie + peas + mash. Absolutely smashed it.

Andrew from Kindred was our room mate, great guy to hang out with for sure.

Yes it’s been said before, Melbourne Graff kicks Sydney graff, hard.

VWGolf.net.au Ribs Night

Hurricanes Bondi Beach.

Wow Cow in Dalringhurst for dessert.

VWGolf.net.au monthly Schnitzel nights are still going strong (1st Wednesday of every month). Last night we hit Hurricanes in Bondi Beach to have ribs for a change. It’s always have to tell which I like better, Hurricanes, or Kelly’s. When I’m at Kelly’s I think Kelly’s are better, and last night I thought Hu8rricanes was better!

Ferry to Manly

Hi Genevieve! I met up with Suga and Gen in Surry. They were having post lunch drinks at The Winery. The lush outdoor garden like setting reminds me of Melbourne for some reason.

Christina’s Giggly Rose Cocktail.

Sun setting on the Ferry cruise into Manly.

Suga and I.

Docking at Manly.

The macaroons lived up to the name.

We smashed our Pie + Macaroons here.

Cheery American bar waitress at the 4 Pines Brewery was celebrating the 4th of July.

Sake’s amazing Tuna Tasting Plate.

It’s been ages since Suga and I caught a Ferry to Manly, and despite the weather being cold, as well as a little on/off we took a chance. Luckily the rain never came and we got to watch the sun set as the ferry ported us over to Manly.

Through some research I found out that Adriano Zumbo had a shop in Manly so we went about tracking it down. Initially we walked straight past it, with some help from the Google map on my iPhone we found the shop, which was basically a hole in the wall!

We stocked up on lots of macaroons + a pie too. Pie wasn’t crash hot but the macaroons are really nice. We had a drink at the 4 Pines (they brew and sell their own beer there, a must go if you’re a beer lover) and thought about dining in Manly. Hugo’s and Garfish were our options, but then we thought we’d just catch the ferry back and give Wildfire a go, once we saw how quiet Wildfire was, and how heavy the menu looked we decided to drop in to Sake to see if they had a table for us!

We ended up getting a sunken table, which was really just a raised up table that you sit into (I suppose they couldn’t dig holes into the ground floor!). Hard to get into but once in it was fun. Tuna Tasting Plate still blows my socks off every time. Everything else we had was nice too, but the tasting plate is just so good that everything else pales in comparison.

Tour de France time now. I can hear the spectator horns beeping upstairs. Macaroons await. Banzai!

VWGolf.net.au Go Kart Day

8.30AM crazy fog.

The boys.

Most likely never going!

Suiting up.

Not only was it foggy, but it was freezing cold during the driver briefing, luckily though the sun came up and it ended up being the perfect day.

We hired the 13HP (faster) corporate karts.

I thought the stars had aligned when I got kart number 32 (R32 GT-R!), but I knew beating Aaron was going to be hard (he’s a pro race car driver!).

The Aarons. Note: Fast guy is in his own suit.

We had 13 guys out on the track, not too many drivers, just right.

After a warm up session and 4 hardcore races the final 15 lap grand prix decider ended up like this.

2nd place for me, was never going to come first as Aaron was just too good. He also got the fastest lap time of the day, beating my time by just .01 of a second. Soooooooooo frustrating!

Beers and lunch at the Royal Cricketers Arms, apparently one of Australia’s oldest pubs (1880).

Wagaya!

Always book for 6 so you get a booth, the booths rock.

Stephen + Cam.

Cam loved the touch screen ordering system.

Asahi, served in record breaking time as usual.

Sushi Roulette! I was hoping our guest Cam would get the one which had copious amounts of wasabi in it, and too right he copped it!

Hot Sake, so good.

I love green tea ice cream but the black sesame at Wagaya was way nicer.

Great night last night. We took Cam to Wagaya last night. He’s a country boy, not had much Japanese at all so we thought we’d treat him to something different. He loved the ordering system, the food too even if he did cop the huge wasabi hit in the salmon sushi roulette!
