Impromptu shoot with Tash

Yesterday I had an impromptu shoot with Tash, a gorgeous girl I’m meant to be shooting at the end of this month. She just happened to be staying at Lake Macquarie this Easter Break so we thought we’d try and get together to shoot.

Tash had a friend do her makeup, it was a little over the top for the chill Easter Break look I had in mind, add to that the harsh midday light with a bitey sun directly above us, no reflectors, no lens filters or hood… I was in for a challenge!!!

It turns out that Tash’s heavy makeup worked OK with the harsh light I had to deal with. I chose a particularly clean white jetty 3 down from our own so that the white paint from the jetty would reflect light back at Tash’s face. We also shot at a small park at the end of the street, and also at the Eleebana shared bicycle/walkway.

She’s a great gal, and I’m looking forward to shooting with her again later this month. For now, you can check out the shots we took yesterday here: http://www.justinfoxphoto.com/girls#/tash/

Eleebana Lake Macquarie Fishing Trip – Day 6

lastday
Zi, first up and so committed. One last cast! Seriously though, that monster flathead he pulled up a few days ago just takes the cake.

Today we’re packing up, cleaning up and heading home. It’s been an awesome Easter Break. Colin and Mei have gone next level with their food, and have fed us amazing dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day. The weather was up and down, but it didn’t stop So How Crew from catching fish and squid to eat, and whilst the house wasn’t as amazing as baller house (which has ruined us, really), it still provided great fishing, and a place for us to catch up, talk shit, eat, drink and have lots of laughs. Till next year!

Then for our last dinner Colin and Mei served up Hiyashi chūka, a Japanese dish of chilled ramen noodles with various toppings, so healthy, so good!

Eleebana Lake Macquarie Fishing Trip – Day 3

bakedeggs
So last night’s never ending jug of sangria saw a fair few of us get pretty pissed. Lots of lols were had. This morning I woke up to the sound of coffee being made, and then as expected, an amazing Colin and Mei breakfast, this time baked Spanish eggs!

pancake
And pancakes too!

monster-flathead-4
Then Zi, who was the only guy who was super committed to fishing for hours in the rain caught, caught this 80cm monster flatty off the jetty! Posing with Mei.

monsterflathead_2
Family photo lol! Done! He’s now got a great fishing story to tell, forever!

monsterflathead
Despite the neighbours on both sides urging us to keep the monster female Zi decided to let her go. A billion kharma points his way!

porkbutt
So no flathead for dinner, but Colin’s smoked pork butt came out of the smoker after a huge 9hr stint, and amazing pork butt, slaw, crackling and BBQ sauce burgers were smashed, followed by the late arrival of Willie, who’s been unable to make it the past few nights due to food poisoning! He brought along boat number 2 and bottles of cognac!

Weather is looking up for day 4! Now that Willie and his huge tackle box has arrived… it’s game on!!!

yellowrice
Traditional Indonesian yellow rice which always takes me back to my childhood.

pickles
Pickled veggies.

sangria
And Sangria!

The sun never came up on day 2. It’s been grey all day, and after an amazing breakfast (Mei and Colin made corn fritters!) it started raining. That didn’t stop the boys from fishing though. The aim was to catch squid for Jewfish bait. We all used squid jigs. An hour in we hadn’t caught a thing but then Zi pulled one up and it was game on. Zi ended up catching 3, Steve one, all on the one pink jig.

Back at the house Colin and Mei served up the best Reuben Sandwich I’ve ever! Damn these guys are so ready to open their own cafe. After lunch it really pissed down, which was cool as we all had food coma. Netflix, grandpa naps and more food in the form of dinner; an Indonesian feast of Beef Rendang, yellow rice and pickles accompanied by an evil jar of white win sangria!

house
The house from the jetty.

Always hanging for the annual fishing trip with the ‘So How’ Crew. This time the guys have hired a family friendly house in Eleebana, a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie (’cause Zi and Gloria have 4 month yr old Alyssa!).

I woke up with a hang over from the beers and ciggies consumed with Indy my mechanic the night before. Not sure what’s wrong with me lately, but I’ve been copping day long headaches the morning after drinking. Usually it’s not this bad. Must drink more water.

Despite the headache I had to beat the Easter Traffic (I was considering going the day after), so I bought a cheap rod and reel combo from the local fishing store (it’s tradition for me haha!) and hit the road. Traffic was pretty bad in spots, made worse with my headache, but I ended up getting to the house before anyone else.

It’s going to be an awesome break! I’ve just had a shower and the water pressure kicks ass! Showers are something that I’ve not been able to enjoy since renovating my house with water saving devices (no pressure, drip drip drip).

108
1.08! Got my PB on the 8th lap of the 3rd session!

leak
Then I saw this… it’s not a GT-R unless it leaks, right?!

gtr_ismr_rb26
RB26 back at IS Motor Racing, the beasts second home.

I got to test out my fresh new Toyo R888 semi’s on the track yesterday. It was a Private Track day held by JDMyard, the best kind as you get as much track time as you want (open pitt lane) and there’s very few people and even less spectators.

I had a horrible night’s sleep, nothing new there as I always get excited before track days! The long drive to Goulburn was painful as always, even worse in the GT-R due to it’s shoe melting hot floorpan, no stereo or air-con. The trip was made more bearable though that I had Matt, Jing and Cliffy in convoy.

The first session out is always a nothing session, especially as you have to come back in an adjust hot pressures of your tyres. Having said that, the car felt good and on a cruisy lap I was already seeing 1.14, then 1.11, then 1.10 and all of this in traffic too. I came back in to find my tyre pressures were at 40 hot. Most would suggest much lower hot pressure for semis so I reduced them to 34 hot and went out for another session.

Second session the GT-R transformed into a drift car. Turn 2 and the last corner on the straight had the car completely sideways and full oppy lock! It’s amazing what a small difference in tyre pressures did to the GT-R. I only managed a 1.11, no traffic but just so much sideways action it wasn’t possible for me to clock a good time.

I came back into the garages quite frustrated, a little rattled that the car was so taily too. I decided to pump the tyres back up to 40 hot and I went out again.

Third session out I hit a 1.08! The car wasn’t crazy tail happy like the previous session with tyre pressures set to 34 hot. Job done! R888, 8th lap, 1.08. I love 8’s!

After a lunch break I notice a lot of fluid under my car, turns out it was oil. Yet another track day ended early in the GT-R! I had to call it a day, a shame as I usually get my best lap time on the last session of the day when the weather is cooler and confidence is up. I know I could have gone much faster, but ultimately I’m happy I got a PB.

I drove the car straight to Indy at IS Motor Racing to check out the oil leak. It turns out the leak came from some braided lines near the oil filter/cooler set-up. Nothing major, as expected.

I ended up having a billion beers and ciggies with Indy, just like old days. We reminisced about the past, and spoke a little about the future too. He’s a constant, so am I. Just head down, do what you do best. I’ve got a lot of respect for the man and always will.

On a final note; I’ve still not tamed the beast and it’s why I love my GT-R so much! I’ve owned over 20 cars and can’t say I’ve ever respected any car more than this one. Seeing it back at Indy’s last night, drunk, in love… it was an awesome thing. I’m back, or well, that’s what it feels like. Home.

indian_kebab2
Fucking fantastic!!!

indian_kebab3
!!!

I got an email from Dallas and Daniel, 2 passionate car guys who run a weekly car podcast called The Average Joe Car Show

Their podcast started as a way of looking at sports cars that the ‘average joe’ can get into as opposed to buying a ‘new sporty car’. Their tag line is; ‘The only thing modest about your car is the budget’.

The guys love 80s, 90s and early naughties sports cars and invited me out to join them for a couple of hours recording a podcast. They had some cool questions lined up and I ended up having heaps of fun. I’ll be sure to post a link to the iTunes podcast when it’s ready!
