WTAC 2019

Monday Funday! I’m meeting up with Ian Baker and Alain Sihaphone today to discuss design and marketing ideas for WTAC 2019.

For huge reasons, WTAC almost didn’t happen this year… DO NOT BE one of those people that end up saying “Oh I wish I went to WTAC when it was on…”

I get a LOT of these comments in regards to the old ZEN Garage shop in Leichhardt; “oh wish I went when it was open”, regret is lame AF, and most of the time it can be avoided, so less excuses, just do what you have to do to get to WTAC this year ’cause IMHO, it’s hands down the best automotive event we have on the calendar each year.

BMW M135i

Love it or hate it, the long bonnet makes the M135i shape different to most ‘hatchbacks’.

Di’s no longer a Mercedes girl! She just picked up this fantastic BMW M135i. It’s been modified with some quality power mods (tune, large intercooler and all pipes) and is making monstrous power. For just over $30k this thing is so much car for the money.

My friend Chris Leong had a M135i Coupe when they first came out, and I instantly thought the car looked a bit too small for him. I also felt the interior was a bit tight, but for Di I think the car is perfect. She’s got 4 doors (the baby seat has gone right in), a hatch and the car has enough of the luxury stuff her previous Merc SUV had, but this car ain’t no fake, it’s definitely the real deal.

Hey Chris!

I ran into Chris in Randwick the other day, but was with Mum and couldn’t stop to catch up. This morning I was on WhatsApp and he sent me a message asking if I was free for lunch. Usually I’d say no as I’d be too baked to be fucked, but these days I’m so quick to say yes to anything that gets me out of the house!

I met Chris many years ago through Indy So at IS Motor Racing. Indy built my R32 GT-R and Chris was the sales guy at ISMR at the time. We’ve been friends ever since. Over the years we’ve had MANY conversations about joining forces, but nothing has ever come out of it. It’s been over a year since we’ve caught up and today we found ourselves once again talking about projects we could work on together.

I’ve got a bit of a plan in mind that involves Dianne, Chris and I. Business ideas even… not that I love business, but business with these 2 could be really fun and rewarding as they both have in abundance all the things I lack, and vice versa, and we’re all working from home/for ourselves too.

It was Sam Law’s B’Day the other night (on Valentines Day!), and he gave me a present, this Yokohama ADVAN T-Shirt which I designed for Yokohama quite a few years ago. NEW OLD STOCK! I was always upset that the shirt sold out at WTAC and that I never got a copy of it! Call it vanity, but I LOVE keeping one finished and printed design of every design I ever do, just to hold and have. It feels good to finally get a copy of this T for my physical portfolio!

PS: I particularly like the “NOT FOR EVERYONE” bit!

Spent Valentines supporting ZEN Sponsored Driver David Dalrymple who entered the WTAC ZEN Garage BNR32 in Round 4 of the Whiteline Tarmac Rallysprint Series at Sydney Motorsport Park. ZEN sniper Sam Law picked me up at around 3PM, we then sat in traffic on the M5 for a good 1.5hrs (get out of the house they say…) and then we realised we were going through this traffic to get to the… tip. Awesome! Over an hour in the car with me, in traffic?! Sam’s a quiet person and I absolutely talked his left ear off!

Sun was still up when we got there, and it was absolutely smashing us. I signed on as a photographer and got given a free meal voucher, what is this? This is unreal. The smell of brakes and tyres overtook the smells from the tip, and magic hour was fast approaching as the sun went down. The rally format had car after car flying past us in very quick succession making spectating pretty damn fun (especially since we were allowed basically anywhere on the circuit as photographers).

Panning? What’s that?! Sam… what shutter speed should I be using?! I took a few shots, but let’s be honest. I had no fucking idea what I was doing.
