Ear infection

Hope you’re not eating your breakfast whilst reading this.

Every few years my ears get blocked form ear wax. Ewwwww, yeah. My old doctor told me not to use earbuds to clean out my ears, seems like when I do use them they just push the wax further in and that causes the blockage. I’ve had my ears flushed out twice before, basically I use ear drops for a week, then the doctor flushes out the build up wax with a huge syringe filled with hot water.

A few days ago I found myself picking at my right ear. I think I was half asleep? I tried to clean my ear out with an earbud and yep, fucked my ear up good. I had to go in to see the doctor to get a shot in any case (Jamie’s baby is popping out tomorrow so the whole family has gotten whooping cough shots in preparation) so I had him have a lok at it, and too right, it turns out I have an ear infection.

Same drill, ear drops for a week then he’ll flush shit out. As soon as I got home I used the ear drops on the right ear, then the left. As a result I’ve lost all hearing in my left ear and I can only just barely hear with my right. I’ve been in a strange place the past 2 days, it’s amazing how out of whack I feel considering there’s nothing at all wrong with me otherwise. I missed the INfront Apple Talk at the Apple store last night because I just didn’t feel confident to go out into the world with poor hearing, and tonight I’ve got the Senna screening which I absolutely have to attend… it’s going to be interesting!

EDIT: Hot water + a syringe did the trick (you don’t want to know about the amounts of wax that came out, crazy gross!) and now I can hear again! Like never before. YAY! It’s like turning the treble up. Even the clicking of the keys on my keyboard, mouse, and when I walk the rustling of my clothes. BIONIC!

ANJA

ANJA Eurphorics in Black Gloss.

A few days ago I got a call from Caryn, her little brother Scott (he’ll always be Scotty to me!) has launched a new sunglasses company which totally took me by surprise!

I checked out the site, real nice. I thought Caryn had designed it but it turns out Scotty did it all by himself. Being a bit of a sunglasses collector I couldn’t help myself so I bought a pair.

They came in the mail today and I love them! They’re rad, packaged nicely, came with some stickers and an ANJA branded pouch and cleaning cloth too.

Check out: http://anjaeyes.com and also be sure to check out the ANJA Blog, warning though, it’s not safe for work!

Mac fan in the making (again)

New wired keyboard with numeric pad.

As much as I want to avoid being a mac fan (the few technical issues I had with my new mac didn’t help) I’m actually starting to like being back on a mac. Like anything else I suppose it’s about customising things to suit.

A while back the bluetooth mouse was giving me the shits with lost connections so I put my old wired Microsoft mouse back on and I’m loving it. Last week my keyboard batteries went low and started losing bluetooth connection. I charged up some rechargable batteries but failed to get the keyboard to synch up with the mac, in frustration (I never liked the tiny incomplete keyboard in any case) I reverted to an old wired Apple keyboard but instantly I found myself struggling with pressing the keys and as a result I was making spelling errors everywhere.

Remembering that the new style flat keyboard took a while to get used to I gave the old keyboard a few days to see if I’d get used to it again, but… no go. On Sunday I ordered a new flat style (but complete with numeric pad + wired so I’d never have flat battery issues again) keyboard from the Apple Store and it came this morning. It’s perfect and I’m loving it.

Mia Freedman hates on Cadel Evans

Not that I ever watch the Today Show, nor have I heard of Mia Freedman, but yesterday morning I was made aware of someone on national television bashing on Cadel’s victory at the Tour de France.

Immediately after the video (in rage) I commented on the YouTube page. Unfortunately I resorted to calling her names (an idiot) and over the course of the day, despite the thousands of hate messages Mia has received over twitter, on her blog and on YouTube, my comment was given the thumbs up by others and it’s now “stickied” and highlighted at the top of the video page.

I spent a lot of yesterday spreading the video footage as much as I could through my network (facebook, twitter, blogs and forums). I’m still mad, maybe I’m looking for an apology? Whilst her opinion is valid and worthy of discussion the timing of it is awful and the way she delivered her opinion stinks. Either way I think she’s stuffed up, hit a lot of nerves and made more enemies than fans and I doubt that all the advertising revenue she’s gotten from the traffic to her banner filled web site would suffice for all the abuse that’s been directed directly at her.

I’ve failed to read all the responses on her blog, and various other media but this morning Bridie O’Donnell, a professional cyclist and doctor responded with a well thought out open letter worth reading.

BBQ @ Zigaya

Zi’s flat faced cats, a bit strange in pictures but so so cute in real life!

Gloria’s away and Zi wasn’t too impressed with the dinner he organised a few weeks back for Steve’s B’day at Rengaya so he decided to invite us all to his new apartment in Hurstville for a BBQ (Zigaya!).

I’ve known Zi for a while now, he’s a best mate but I’ve never stepped foot in his place before, ever, so last night was a real treat. I’ve eaten his food from even before I met him as he used to be the cook at a Japanese restaurant down the road from me many years ago. Last night I brought that up and he mentioned that he remembers me from coming into the restaurant to get take-out (I never saw him as he was out the back in the kitchen I assume), funny!

Zi cooked up a tasty feast and had more than enough food to feed all the boys (and girls too). As always when hanging out with all the ex-auto salon guys you’re going to piss yourself laughing as they pay out on each other (I was literally in tears more than a few times).

PS: F1 qualifying was on last night and I hung around to watch Webber get pole position for tonight’s race. I then had to excuse myself to go home and watch the Tour de France where Cadel Evans smashed the opposition. The first Australian to ever win the Tour (which has been held for over 100 years). National pride. I’m emotional!

27 square metres – Sean’s new space

My old buddy Sean invited me over to his place last night for a long overdue catchup. He’s lived in an apartment at Broadway for quite a few years now a while back he mentioned that he planned to re-invent the space. I was thinking new furniture, artwork on the walls perhaps… but as soon as I stepped into his apartment I found I was in an art gallery!

Sean’s current flatmate is Sokquon Tran, a landscape artist who’s mentoring him at the moment. Sokquon’s pretty good with his hands and he’s built a wall structure that covers the entire kitchen, benches surrounding what was the lounge room as well as an outdoor area to match. The idea is to have small private invite only opening nights, music, wine, nibbles, art talk.

Despite not having any art on the walls yet there was already wine and conversation flowing. I think the concept is brilliant. I’ve never felt like smaller galleries worked well post opening nights. I always assumed that a show would have little or no visitors during the week (dead) or so after opening night, but this negates that. An invite list prevents dealing with blow-ins from the street looking for free booze and having a gallery in such an intimate and comfortable setting works well socially.

Sean’s busy working on a web site for his new space. I’ll be sure to report back with a URL as soon as it’s up!
