See-saw 2011

Matt just spotted me on this year’s Sydney Design 2011 web site. The photo was taken during the 2 day See-saw project I mentored last year.

World Time Attack Challenge

WTAC is just around the corner, a monster event which sees the worlds fastest track cars fly downunder to clock the fastest time they can around Eastern Creek International Raceway. Even if you’re not into cars, the event’s worth checking out (there’s drift and show and shine events as well). Speaking of show and shine, a mate spotted my GT-R on the WTAC web site, looks like I’ll be expected to bring my GT-R out then?!

Mamak

Mamak.

Roti was awesome.

Ayam Goreng.

Chicken Satay.

Nasi Lemak (coconut rice).

I’d heard about Mamak, a Malay restaurant for a while now. Every time someone said something about it I thought they were saying ‘vagina’ in Indonesian (Memek!). Christina and I have been hunting down new things to eat so we gave it a go. We got there at just before 6PM and it was already packed, we literally got the last table available (and on the way out there was a decent sized queue outside).

Like seeing a movie. I tried my best to ignore the hype, but alas I have to say that I think it’s more hype than amazing food. Sure, the roti was awesome, really light and fluffy. I’ll be back to try more of the different roti they serve up, but the friend chicken wasn’t the best I’ve had (my Mum’s is way better!), the satay chicken wasn’t the best either (my uncle still kills it, Jimbaran a close second) and the nasi lemek was just boring (lamb curry was crazy tough and dry too).

INfront re-brand update

We’re almost 2 months into the INfront re-brand and today we finally got to see some visual concepts. Zann wasn’t in Sydney this time but he was on Skype. Ivana‘s done a great job, conceptually it’s brilliant and we’re all pretty excited with the general direction. Can’t wait to reveal the new brand!

Riddle Me That Alleycat

Jarod‘s Casserole.

Nat’s Chumba. Skillzors, he was popping some mads tricks on this thing.

Nick’s bike.

Andy‘s Cinelli Mash.

Andy.

Felix was my checkpoint partner and we were in charge of giving out these riddles to riders when they rocked up to our checkpoint (which was the Opera House).

My 1st spoke card!

BMU sponsored the event (I gave 5 x T’s and sticker packs), so too Cycling Express (a $100 voucher).

Andy. After us checkpointers got our briefing we snuck in a pie face session.

When we got back to the starting point the serious dude were ready to rock.

My Reign and Felix’s CAAD. Felix and I headed straight for the Opera House, and played the waiting game.

In what seemed like no time at all a horde of riders came blasting down the hill, all lights blazing, zipping through the Opera House show goers and all of a sudden we didn’t have enough hands to hand out the riddles. 3 guys went down in all the excitement, these guys were so competitive we didn’t even get as much as a “hi” from most of them!

Security hammered Felix and I after they all left, we decided to move the checkpoint closer to the road so that show goers and tourists weren’t in harms way from psycho cyclists!

At 9PM we called it a night and headed to the finish point. With almost 60 riders, it was a great sight to see.

Wasted people in cabs on the way to the cross were yelling all sorts of foul crap, typical Sydney weekend!

Another rare Paino! A bit older than my one.

The guy who owned the Paino came first!

The Cycling Express voucher was given to dead last!

First girl winner won some great gear (candy cranks chainring drew some envy!).

Alex (aka Lorday) had some extra prizes to give away to the first 2 people who jumped in and rode across the fountain haha.

Soul Food

Hot Wings with blue cheese dipping sauce.

NYC Chilli Dog.

Pulled Pork Sandwich.

All washed down with a Bud to keep the American theme going.

After watching MasterChef last night, where the contestants prepared a “soul food” meal in Harlem NYC, both Christina and I were craving something warm and hearty. We Googled for a bit and decided to try Blue Plate Bar & Grill in Neutral Bay. Friendly service, nice atmosphere and the food was indeed spicy and hearty. Not quite the Fried Chicken, Ribs and Black Eyed Peas we were after, but still great!

Old Man Skate Crew

Andy.

Sonny.

Andrew.

Andy (he kicks ass!).

Andrew & Damien.

OMSC jam session at Waterloo Skate Park this morning. I stacked it more than anyone else. 7 times I think! My left shoulder feels a bit bung and my right shin’s lost some skin… rad!

Subframe Alignment @ Spinning Wheel Tyres

Low car and lip isn’t a problem when this ramp sits dead flush with the ground when down.

-2.5 camber in the rear means the wheels are tucking again. Looks weak, but no rub.

Ever since my last wheel alignment I’ve noticed that the drivers side rear rubs a lot more than the passenger side. I could visually see that the drivers side rear tyre was much loser to the guard than the passenger side rear. It’s bothered me a lot. I just assumed VW’s are built this way but when I was hanging out with Anthony (Carbon Lotus/R36 Twin Turbo Golf owner) the other day he told me that the rear subframe can be aligned, and that most if not all VW’s are out of alignment from factory.

His guys at Spinning Wheel Tyres had done his car, and a few other VW’s so I booked in and today I got my alignment done. Great guys, super quick, heaps of great advice regarding set-up too (I know many of the MX-5 guys use Spinning Wheel).

They think my car has been set up WAY too stiff. I agree but I can’t adjust the rears without dropping out the rear shocks (so so annoying). Will have to do at a later date. For now, straight rear sub frame and no more rubbing in the rear (I dialed the rear to -2.5 like my previous alignment with the CROSS coilovers).
