Personal Training

No! Not more boxing!

I’m still half asleep here. Suga getting me back for taking a shot of her (funny how we’re all wearing red and black too!).

Frenchie’s low and sexy Candy White R36 wagon.

Suga and I started up personal training late last year with Frenchie (who’s a Personal Trainer and moderator of our VWGolf.net.au Forums). I’d done personal training in the past and it was great until I pushed myself a little too hard in one session and did my back in. My back’s still pretty weak but Frenchie’s been awesome already in helping me to learn some exercises which will help me strengthen it.

Frenchie’s after some graphic design work in exchange for training sessions (perfect!) so it’s looking like we’ll be keeping it up :)

Wedding planning, debts, stress and stuff…

I’m well on my way to paying off my -$9k credit card debt (Christmas, new Mac and most likely fish tank stuff!). Head down and I’m working hard on both community stuff as well as a couple of new jobs.

I know at some point I’ve got to slow the work down to plan the wedding (October this year). In retrospect I believe that I stuffed it all up. I really liked the idea of a long engagement and I convinced everyone it was a good idea a year ago (I tend to have a knack with manipulation!) but what I’d give to be already married right now!

Christina and I have thought about the budget for our wedding and minus the reception (which our parents are generously covering 50/50) we’re expecting to spend about $25-30k…and that’s all just for one day (well, there’s the honeymoon too).

The money and saving up for the wedding isn’t the only stressful part. Having a max capacity of 200-250 people means we’ve got to be tight with who we can and can’t invite. Both sides of the family could easily bring over 250 people so that means at some point we’ve got to say “no” to our parents inviting their friends and relatives just so Christina and I can bring some of our friends too.

I’ve had a couple of good friends cancel their weddings, the most recent cancellation came quite a bit after wedding invites were sent out! After catching up with both parties I learned a little more about the pressures involved, both financial as well as the question of what and who are you doing it all for.

It’s still early January but I’m feeling like time is flying. I’ve got so much on my plate right now, debts, work, The Wedding and managing everyday things which I’ve always been really shit at (health, cleaning the house, doing the washing, cooking etc!). I’m not kidding myself this time around. I know my relationship with Christina is going to be tested, but for the first time in my life I know where I want to be in the distant future and I also know what it’s going to take to get there. I’m all in!

ADV Positive – AP’s 500HP Turbo R32 on 19″ ADV’s.

Ross’ R36 Wagon.

The Bavarian. There’s a pig in there, can you see it?

Table no. 32! Max Brenner’s for coffee.

Hooked up with the Golf guys and gals last night (yes, more beers, more food!). Great night as always, plenty of laughs and seeing (as well as hearing!) R32’s in convoy was awesome. More pics here

JDMST Lanyard + Carabiner

It took me some time to listen to the community. They’ve been wanting JDMST lanyards for years so late last year I decided to give them what they wanted. The order came in today and they look AOK! I just hope they sell otherwise I’ll be stuck with 250 lanyards!

El Jannah’s

BMU guys drink Zero.

THE garlic sauce.

Charcoal Chicken.

Caught up with the BMU boys last night for dinner. It was Pho last time but last night we made the trek to El Jannah’s in Granville to try their charcoal chicken and legendary garlic sauce.

Got to say, not overly impressed with the chicken (thought it was a bit burnt and dry) but damn the garlic sauce is good! Super intense and very moreish. I was dipping all sorts of shit into it…gherkins, fries, pita bread, chicken, the lot and despite chewing 2 pieces of gum afterwards I was burping garlic all night (even woke myself up a few times in the middle of the night!). Epic!

Can’t…stop…eating…

Lobster tail with lobster sauce and trout mouse and garden picked flowers.

Wagyu, Ox Tongue and Lamb main.

Tony (Christina’s Dad) went all out last night with a degustation menu for Selina’s going home dinner (Christina’s cousin who lives and works in the UK). He’s definitely a master chef!

Great night, great conversations. It was especially nice to be able to talk to the older relo’s for a change (usually there are two tables, the “kiddies” table and the adults).

NYE

Viewing the fireworks right under the bridge. Strange perspective as we were standing behind the bridge and fireworks were going off to the right of us, loud though which was cool.

Suga and I.

Suga and I hit Harbour Party at Luna Park this year for NYE (with her girl friends).

We were at the bus stop with a group of young guys who were already drinking up and when the bus stopped (and lowered down) in Randwick for an old fella with a disability to get on one of them yelled out “Fucking hell hurry up!”. Great way to start the night…

Harbour Party was an over 18’s event, so no kiddies, and since tix were pricey it also meant less Westies (though I spotted a few of them off their faces and harassing people at 8pm heading down to Milsons Point Park) but since it was a primo location for the fireworks it brought in a very mixed crowd. Mums and daughters, 30’s, 40’s and even older Indian ladies with huge SLR’s around their necks. The carnival atmosphere was pretty strange too, street performers in whack costumes, etc. There were free rides all night but I wasn’t up for it, the music was so so, dance floors were awesome and lights were pretty good too.

In the end I got tired (old man!) and at 1.30am I wanted to bail to avoid the rush outta there when it shut down at 3, turns out there were still hundreds of families trying to get out from the park (the poor kiddies!) and it took ages for us to get anywhere near the train station entrance! Christina and I decided gto stay on the train until Eastwood and crash at her parents place rather than get off a town hall and catch a bus out to Maroubra.

All in all it was a different experience, wouldn’t suggest it to anyone but can’t say I’ve ever been that close to the fireworks before, ever and I didn’t have anything else planned so…all good!

Albert Namatjira inspired Australian aquarium landscape update

Laying down the aquasoil.

Mr Lock shaping the soil.

Me, deep in thought.

The girls chucked these guys in for some much needed comic relief! Great for sense of scale too!

Lights on and it was time to go for dinner.

Spent the whole day at the Locks today helping Tony out with his tank. So much more work than I thought as the tank is just so huge and the rocks were so heavy to move around. All in all we’re happy with how much we got done in one day. The scape isn’t perfect but we’ve got time to get it right. I’ve got to begin the hunt for a huge tree trunk for the left side (meant to be the foreground).

Anyways, last update for the year. I’ll be at Harbour Party tomorrow night, off my tits for a few days I expect! Happy New Years all, have a great one, more blogging (I’m really enjoying it!) in the new year :)

SPEEDHUNTERS AWARDS 2010 >> PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR

Kazuhiko “Smoky” Nagata. Photo by Linhbergh.

I was only just made aware of this through facebook but apparently I’m a nominee for the ‘2010 Speedhunters Personality of the Year’ award. I clicked a link and when I saw the people nominated I almost fell over! I suspect Charles had something to do with this (naughty Charles!).

As if my already humongous ego needed more! I’m chuffed and obviously not after the win!!!
