Australia Day

Suga was in the mood!

Suga’s boozy white wine chicken pie filling.

Applying egg for glaze.

Chicken pie perfection!

Mmmm prosciutto!

Mah hot potatoes!

Warm potato salad.

Salad bar at Mum’s.

Australia Day is Mum’s B’day too.

Coco and carrot cake. So intense.

Richie’s latest beer.

Suga and I had to help my sister and Richie cook for Mum’s B’day/Australia Day yesterday. We’re both noobs in the kitchen but we took up the challenge and I thought we did really well :) Suga made chicken pie (3rd time she’s made it and definitely the best so far) and I made a warm potato salad (hey gotta start somewhere!!!). Gotta admit I really enjoyed cooking this time around!

Yulli’s

Sunday night’s got a different vibe. I dig it. It’s not desperate like a Friday or Saturday night, its a lot more chilled out, people out are friendlier too. We smashed a few wines at the Clock (half price wines on Sunday night!) and we had dinner across the road at Yulli’s, which was hands down the naughtiest vegetarian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Their Eggplant Involtini dish was the star of the show, with the Wicked Elf Witbier coming a very close 2nd. I’m pretty sure I’ll be craving it again soon!

Ichiban Boshi

Hata bin ramune – this drink is super cool. You get a tool with it to open the bottle which drops a glass ball into the top part of the bottle and causes the entire drink to fizz up. Lolly water at it’s best!

Karaage Cheese Curry. So so naughty.

Tantan Tsukemen. So good.

Suga and I have been craving a Japanese curry for a while now, yesterday we dropped into our fave ramen house Ichiban Boshi in Bondi Junction for a hit. Forget the one in the city (same floor as Kinokuniya), that one’s crap. Bondi is where it’s at!

Thai Banyan Tree

Rental car goodness.

Sean.

That’s Michael, picture doesn’t show it but he’s a giant!

‘Rolling’ Sav. Blanc. My kinda wine!

Had a meeting with Sean and Rob from go2space the other night. Super chilled out dudes who are looking after media placement on my car forums. They invited myself and Michael who owns and runs Ozmazda.com for dinner at Thai Banyan Tree in Coogee Beach. I can’t say I ever get too excited about going to a new Thai restaurant but Sean talked this one up and too right it was awesome. It’s a tiny restaurant, tight inside (so tight that when Rob accidentally knocked over our table candle the hot wax flew onto someone else’s back!). The open front facade makes it feel a little like you’re actually eating on the streets of Thailand too, kinda.

Sushi Tengoku

This picture needed a sense of scale, they’re bigger than they look!

Aburi Scallops, one of our fave sushi dishes.

There’s a tiny Sushi Restaurant in Kensington, on Anzac Parade called Sushi Tengoku. It’s been there for ages and I’ve eaten there a few times in the past and I’ve always over ordered because they serve up the hugest sushi I’ve ever seen. The salmon slices are so large that they literally wrap the rice when you pick them up, and the tradition of putting an entire piece of sushi in your mouth in one go is no longer possible no matter how big your mouth is!

Una’s

When at Una’s you drink Der Schofferhofer!

Suga, Stevey and Zi in the mirror reflection.

Such a cool surprise that Chris rocked up. Haven’t seen him in ages as he’s been working in Vanuatu. His wife is expecting in a few weeks from now, pretty exciting times for him and there was much wedding and baby talk all night (which had Zi absolutely cringing lol).

Der Jaeger!

Being a group of drivers all of us drove in, pretty stupid as we wanted to drink more beers and catchup some more. Luckily the Green Park was just next door for a few games of pool.

I’m often craving an Una’s Chicken Jaeger Schnitzel. Sure they’ve gotten a LOT smaller over the years and they come with a LOT less sauce than they used to but they’re still the best!

Rockpool Bar & Grill

The foyer, reminds me of Gotham City.

Ordering cocktails. We had a private room upstairs.

Gee.

Robbie.

Nat – Hello Kitty!

$56,000 wine!

B’day boy Jon and Kay.

More eating! Yesterday Suga and I had my Uncle’s B’day luncheon at Din Tai Fung (so good) and at 6PM we had dinner to celebrate Jon’s B’day at Neil Perry’s Rockpool (so so good). My billion day grain fed fillet was cooked to perfection, so so spoilt!

VWGolf.net.au Schnitzel Run

ADV Positive – AP’s 500HP Turbo R32 on 19″ ADV’s.

Ross’ R36 Wagon.

The Bavarian. There’s a pig in there, can you see it?

Table no. 32! Max Brenner’s for coffee.

Hooked up with the Golf guys and gals last night (yes, more beers, more food!). Great night as always, plenty of laughs and seeing (as well as hearing!) R32’s in convoy was awesome. More pics here

El Jannah’s

BMU guys drink Zero.

THE garlic sauce.

Charcoal Chicken.

Caught up with the BMU boys last night for dinner. It was Pho last time but last night we made the trek to El Jannah’s in Granville to try their charcoal chicken and legendary garlic sauce.

Got to say, not overly impressed with the chicken (thought it was a bit burnt and dry) but damn the garlic sauce is good! Super intense and very moreish. I was dipping all sorts of shit into it…gherkins, fries, pita bread, chicken, the lot and despite chewing 2 pieces of gum afterwards I was burping garlic all night (even woke myself up a few times in the middle of the night!). Epic!

Can’t…stop…eating…

Lobster tail with lobster sauce and trout mouse and garden picked flowers.

Wagyu, Ox Tongue and Lamb main.

Tony (Christina’s Dad) went all out last night with a degustation menu for Selina’s going home dinner (Christina’s cousin who lives and works in the UK). He’s definitely a master chef!

Great night, great conversations. It was especially nice to be able to talk to the older relo’s for a change (usually there are two tables, the “kiddies” table and the adults).
